I enjoy the song, and so does my 4yo son. He doesn't care if the Cubs are in first place or last place. He likes to get excited when they win, and I think that's reason enough to keep the song.

Should the Bears not play Bear Down after TD's unless they're in the lead? Should the Blackhawks not play Chelsea Dagger unless the goal puts them in the lead? Or if the game is meaningful?

People have enough reasons in life to be depressed. Let them enjoy themselves at a damn ballgame. Geez.

I guess it must just be the song as I do like Bear Down and Chelsea Dagger when its played at Bears and Blackhawks games, respectively.

I remember enjoying Van Halen's Jump as the 84 Cubs theme song.

in philly they started singing "high hopes" after games - it was harry kalas' favorite song. who cares if the cubs sing it? it's fun and steve goodman was a nice guy and a huge cubs fan. opposing fans who hate it already hate the cubs and their fans, so the whole "contributes to a negative image of cubs fans" is just stupid.

nice guys finish last, like the cubs are trying to do this year. Its fun for drunk idiots from iowa and little kids. Go to disney world if you want that crap.

Please just shut up.

Nothing worse than miserable Cubs fans who get all preachy and awful when they see other people not as miserable as them.

There is one thing that is worse: a miserable cubs fan who thinks that they know literally everything about everything.

I know everything, but I'm not miserable. I'm not one of the dinks that parades around here bemoaning their fandom and other people who get even a modicum of joy out of a season where the Cubs suck.

"WHAT?!?! Somebody is DARING to be happy when the Cubs suck?!?! I WON'T STAND FOR THIS."

Like I said, please just shut up. People singing and dancing to a dumb song when the Cubs win isn't a bad thing. And it's an even stupider stupid complaint when some of the people bitching about that talk about the stretch like it's some sacred tradition. Which is it? So people singing a dumb song in the 7th is OK, but after the end of the game it's embarrassing? Make up your [expletive] minds, you miserable idiots.

I know everything

we know you have been telling us for quite a while now.

its not singing and dancing that is bad after a win, although it does seem a bit ridiculous to do so when you are 20 games under. But in general its awesome people can still have a good time when the team is so bad. But its really that the song is that bad. It is so poorly written, schmaltzy, and sappy, that it is hard to listen ever. Its just so cubs, and that is sickening. I was fine with jump not that I'm a Van Halen fan by any means but it was at least tolerable. And yes I hated the song at the beginning and really hoped it was going to be gone in 08 but it is still here.

Of course it's a bad song. Sports song are terrible (and before the soccer fans get here, yes, that includes your dumb chants). "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" is a stupid song. It's not like the Cubs are a weird team for having a bad song played at the end of the game. And really, the irony of preferring "Jump" is pretty hilarious. What's less embarrassing about that? The ridiculously dated synth riffs? Diamond Dave's yowling scatting? Man, if only they did something REALLY cool, like playing "Sweet Caroline!" I drives me nuts how badass all the teams that play that during a game look!

And Christ, NOTHING is worse than complaining about people being happy over a win when the team is 20 games under. If anything, isn't that when you're looking for something to enjoy the most? Why get down on people for having two [expletive] minutes of fun because the [expletive] team won a game? Are you really THAT self-conscious about your fandom? Hey, you know what's more embarrassing than fans enjoying a win when a team is 20 games under? THE [expletive] TEAM BEING 20 GAMES UNDER.

Remember, when people try to make "serious" sports music you end up with Eddie Vedder's "Go All the Way" monstrosity. Maybe that [expletive] flies down at your made-up Wri-guh-lee Field, Eddie, but not in the real world.

Yeah but this song is much, much worse than those songs. and no one is complaining about people being happy when the cubs win. So stop framing your response that way. its about the song being bad and annoying.

You yourself said it's embarrassing that people sing and dance after a victory when the team is 20 games under. Just a bit up the screen there. Scroll back up if you don't believe me. I can quote it for you if you want.

And "Jump" is bad and annoying, too. It's even worse since it has nothing to do with the Cubs and outside of the moronically simple chorus it's hard as hell to sing along with.

If given a choice, I would keep Go Cubs Go and send hater fans packing. It makes me very happy when the Cubs win. So sue me.

i said its "a bit" ridiculous. but again much more so because the song content is so sappy.

Of course a song that's explicitly pro-Cubs is going to be "sappy." You want something fun and cheesy that's easy for people to sing along to, like "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

And there's nothing embarrassing about being happy and celebrating after a win. I thought it was ridiculous enough when bitter people would gripe about other teams celebrating walk-off wins...now you've got miserable Cubs fans grousing about other fans being happy and having a good time after a victory.

I'd pay real money for the left field bleachers to become the ULTRA section and for fans to start singing "who the [expletive] is Ryan Howard" or something, though, but that's just me. As long as people are having fun, who cares what they sing.

The point of sports is to enjoy yourself and have fun. It's not [expletive] art or social commentary. If you want to hear Fleet Foxes, go listen to Fleet Foxes. That what, you know, musicians are for.

In spite of it's cheesiness, I like the song when the Cubs are doing well. At times like these, hearing it is eye-roll inspiring.

I guess I more or less am in line w/ this statement. When the cubs are winning, I don't mind the song. But, when they are losing, it's annoying. I wouldn't be sad if they got rid of it, but I doubt that would happen.

See? Even the soccer guy gets it.

I'm fully in line with the soccer guy's statements. Make fun of ryan howard. awesome. At least it wont get old because we play the phillies only a few times a year. its not nearly a cheeseball as saying "They got the power, they got the speed / To be the best in the National League" when they are struggling against the worst team in the league and 19 games under.

THE SONG ISN'T GOING TO CHANGE WHETHER THEY ARE GOOD OR BAD.

Christ.

It's not like you're actually buying peanuts and Crackerjacks at every game, too.
