ESPN's Jayson Stark is reporting that the Red Sox have acquired Rich Harden from the Athletics for 1B Lars Anderson and a player to be named later.

We knew the Red Sox needed pitching, and this trade makes a lot of sense for them. With Adrian Gonzalez entrenched at first, Anderson - a former top prospect - became expendable. The 23-year-old has a career .809 OPS over five seasons in the minor leagues and should start immediately for the A's. Harden will provide a much needed boost for the Red Sox rotation as they push towards the playoffs.

Harden has made like 4 starts and he got them Lars Anderson? I know he's blocked and his stock has fallen a bit, but damn. Nice buy low trade, Oakland. Well done.

They'll probably be lucky to get another 4 starts out of him. Dont know who Lars Anderson is, but if hes only 23 with a .809 career minor league OPS, and the A's going nowhere, this sounds like a clear win for them. They'll still be bad though.

DLee to Pirates is "close".

Yeah, like they wouldn't have given up a better package for Pena.

[expletive] you, Hendry. Seriously.

Hahahaha settle down. You don't even know what the Pirates are giving up, if the deal even happens.

Not trading Pena is a bad idea, but potentially not really that bad. It's being reported that the Orioles are getting a Class A hitter for DLee.

Yeah I wanna trade him badly, but basically giving him away would be pretty dumb.

yeah but derrek lee can't hit any more.

I'm sure we could get more for Pena than Lee, but my point was the Pirates acquiring Lee for a Class A OF isn't a sign that we could have traded Pena to them for a great package.

Basically, the opportunity we're passing up by keeping Pena is pretty small - even though there's no reason to pass up that opportunity.

I'd actually be fine with trading him for best offer on the table, whatever it may be. If all the offers are crap right now, however, I have no problem keeping him through tomorrow and trying to deal him in August. One way or the other, though, I think we should go ahead and trade him even if the offer is underwhelming.

The Giants acquired Orlando Cabrera from the Indians for minor league OF Thomas Neal, who was BPs pre-2010 96th overall prospect. I never quite understand why teams keep wanting Orlando Cabrera unless theyre confusing him with Miguel Cabrera or Asdrubal Cabrera.

Michael Bourn to Atlanta for 4 prospects: Jordan Schafer, Brett Oberholtzer, Paul Clemans, and Juan Abreu.

Gotta be honest, I'd be okay, but not thrilled, if the Cubs had received that package from Atlanta in exchange for Byrd.

The Braves made out really nicely on that trade.

Yeah I can understand this, but I think I'd rather hope for a comp pick.

Pirates are close to landing Ludwick. They're going for it.

EDIT: It's done. Ludwick to Pirates for PTBNL.

Getting Ludwick is more like just trying to make your fans think your going for it.

Bedard to Boston.

3:14pm: Details: the Red Sox get Bedard and outfield prospect Trayvon Robinson, the Dodgers get Tim Federowicz, Juan Rodriguez, and Steven Fife, and Joshua Fields went somewhere. We'll clear it up when possible.

3:02pm: Erik Bedard has been traded, tweets SI's Jon Heyman. ESPN's Gordon Edes says the Red Sox got the lefty. Catcher Tim Federowicz went to the Dodgers in what became a three-team deal, tweets ESPN's Jayson Stark.

I'm not sure what the motivation is for the Dodgers to trade Robinson.
