Yao-Lin Wang's final line: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 4-3 GO-FO. Charles Thomas now in.

nice to see him pitch well, because he sucked last year, and a lot of our far east pitching signees have been flops.

That transition cannot be free of severe culture shock.

Wellington Castillo is hotter than anything. I'm sure there have been hot prospects before, but other than that week Vitters had in Peoria, I'm not sure I can remember many or any as blazing as Castillo has been. He's up in the .330's now average-wise at Iowa, and has 9 HR's in 30-some games at Iowa.

He'll still be 24 when next season starts, so he's not a fossil. Given his physical tools for defense and throwing, I think he's got some value if he can hit.

Good thing that he was Koyie Hills backup when he was up.

Can someone please fill me in on the FSL? Is it primarily a hitters league or pitchers league? It looks like we have a lot of guys really doing well there this year.

Justin Bour wins the FSL Home Run Derby.

Wow.

He could be another late round find himself.

I'd classify him as a player that the developmental staff, well, developed. This power wasn't there last year or in college, at least, not to this extent, but I've seen clips this year and I think that power development is legitimate, and he's done it without sacrificing his approach. Of course, will be curious how he fares against AA pitching.

Age Geo Soto Castillo
21 .271/.355/.401/.756 (AA) .287/.337/.383/.720 (A+/AA)
22 .253/.357/.342/.699 (AAA) .232/.275/.386/.661 (AA)
23 .272/.353/.386/.739 (AAA) .255/.317/.498/.815 (AAA)
24 .353/.424/.652/1.076 (AAA) .333/.385/.640/1.025 (AAA)

They are fairly similar prospects in terms of lines. Soto had a late career development in the minors spurred by getting in shape. Overall, he has a better approach ... marginally, but still better. Castillo's a kid that's always been a tad under-hyped by general prospect-dom I think, but I gotta see more with the bat and a better approach, IMO, to buy him as a starting backstop, but that's me.

It's considered a pitchers league. But, the field quality in Daytona has been mentioned as one of the worst in all the minors.

He was bad at Boise, but I thought he pitched quite well at Mesa after getting sent back, although granted small sample. 19K/6BB/18 IP. IIRC, he was good in like 6 of those 8 games, but had one or two poor games.

Gave up 19 hits in 18 innings, so I had wondered whether his stuff was just so-so.

He's 20 now, we'll see.
