Theo says we've narrowed it down to 10 and are getting our last looks before holding some meetings. Says the draft is what occupies most of his days. Wonder if those 10 include guys who are probably gone like Buxton.

I'm sure it does. It's probably their draft board and they're comfortable with taking any of their 10 to prospects in the draft at #6.

My guess is this

Buxton

Gausman

Appel

Zunino

Correa

Fried

Almora

Stroman

Cecchini

Zimmer

Giolito and Wacha could fit in there too. Obviously Giolito is a massive wild card.

With Theo wanting high upside types, I'd be shocked if Giolito isn't on the list of 10. My guess is it's Buxton, Correa, Almora, Zunino, Giolito, Fried, Appel, Gausman, Zimmer and Hawkins.

So, in Callis' chat, he keeps hinting that Appel/Gausman/Zimmer/Buxton/Zunino are the likely top 5. If that's who goes, and we're up, I'm thinking Correa should be the pick there unless Giolito is healthy (and heck, a healthy Giolito could force one of the top 5 to fall). Callis said that his first mock will have Appel go 1-1. As intriguing as Fried seems to be, I'm not sure he should go ahead of Correa's bat upside.

Surprised Callis has Appel 1-1 as of now.

Yeah, if that's the top 5, I think I'd take Correa at 6. But I'll be surprised if he's there when all is said and done. If Giolito is there, he's not healthy, so I guess I'm staying away from him in that scenario.

I'm thinking

Buxton

Gausman

Appel

Healthy Giolito

Zunino

Almora

Correa

Stroman

Wacha

Fried

Cecchini was a good name to throw out by ihe. He and Almora are somewhat similar to me as talents/athletes but one plays in the infield while one is a CF.

Did you miss Zimmer intentionally, because I'd certainly think he's higher on the Cubs wish list than Wacha.

Yikes

But not that surprising, outside of Richie Shaffer and Zunino, there are very few impact college bats.

He's supposed to be after Correa.

Stanford 3B guy?

Correa draws comparisons to Troy Tulowitzki, whom Seattle was set to take in this slot seven years ago before making a late switch to . . . Jeff Clement.

The mock draft is free for everyone: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/mock-draft/2012/2613371.html

1. Houston: Appel

2. Cleveland: Buxton

3. Seattle: Zunino

4: Baltimore: Zimmer

5. Kansas City: Gausman

6. Cubs: Almora

6. CUBS:

Once Appel, Gausman and Zimmer are chosen, there will be a run on position players, most of whom will be high schoolers. Chicago's pick could come down to Correa and polished Florida high school center fielder Albert Almora. The Cubs took another prep shortstop of Puerto Rican descent (Javier Baez) at No. 9 a year ago.

Projected Pick: ALBERT ALMORA.

7. San Diego: Correa

8. Pittsburgh: Marrero

9. Miami: Stroman

10. Colorado: Dahl

I think my personal top 6 mock starts with Houston taking Gausman, Twins take Buxton, Zunino goes to Seattle, Baltimore with Correa, KC passes on Appel to take Giolito, and we get Appel at 6.

Not a pipedream at all. In fact I honestly think at least one will be there at 6. More than one if Giolito proves to be healthy. As for Almora, I see nothing wrong with him at all. Didn't mean to insinuate otherwise, just thought it was noteworthy to see Callis had us passing on Correa.

Ah. Like Zimmer, I like Correa but don't find myself being particularly interested in drafting him.

Everything I read about Almora has me extremely high on this player. Might be my favorite player for the Cubs to draft after Gausman if I got to make the pick.

Honestly, I'd never heard of him. I looked him up and my guess is he's a guy that goes to college. Needs to add weight and some velo too. Very projectsble with his build, but I'm not sure he's even considered a top 100 high school righty. So if he's considered signable, I guess he could go somewhere between round 6-10.
