I'll let you two talk trash back and forth. Meanwhile I'll bask in the belief that, even if it turns out I didn't choose the best offer, it's still a good return on investment compared to what I gave up to get Lincecum just a few months ago. :D

Woe is me.

Not sure if anybody saw Posey get steamrolled last night at the plate ? The report in the last hour is that he's done for the season with broken leg and possibly multiple torn ligaments. It could be a 1 year recovery for him.

Who has a catcher ?

BTW - because Posey ends the year with 185 PA, I assume I don't have to burn his 2nd exempt year ? If I recall, the eligibility was 200 PA or 10 games started (for pitchers).

Its actually 50 I believe, and 200 is the cap to be eligible for the minors.

This is correct.

Although there's a bit of inconsistency; the exemption limit is 50 plate appearances, but the minor league eligibility limit is 200 at-bats.

Agree - it doesn't make sense. We should have one or the other as the standard.

The way this is setup you could have a player losing years of exemptions while playing in the minor leagues. That doesn't make much sense unless I'm missing something.

Thats 50 plate appearances per season too. If he spends all of year 2 in the minors after burning an exemption he doesn't lose a 2nd exemption. I would agree the 200 ab's is too high as guys can stash away guys in the minors who are no longer there. I would drop that to 100 or so.

I always liked the rookie limit of 130 AB.

Should have traded Ubaldo, not Lincecum. :banghead:

what were the details of your trade of lincecum?
I gave up my 1st round pick in the prospect draft, we swapped 1st round picks in the regular draft, I gave up my 3rd (I believe) round pick in the regular draft, plus Volquez.

It probably wasn't intentional; the rules were written several years apart. The minor league eligibility rules have been the same since before I joined the league, but the exemption rules were put in just a few years ago. Before that any major league appearances (even 1 plate appearance or 1 pitching appearance) burned an exemption.

for now*, i have 5 of the top 15 SP's in the league (along with hanson, who is in the top 30).

*any of my SPs are available for a bat.

I'll take him, but my last offer wasn't good enough.

looking back, I'm sorta glad my offer didn't get taken. Lincecum is great, but Latos + Arencibia + Wheeler + 1st pick in the prospect draft will likely provide me much more value over the next few years.

I guess my mistake was actually including proven major league players in my proposal. It's kind of hilarious that Adam got the deal with minor leaguers when he bitches at everyone that trades with me about how those deals will never work out for them. :)

Ditto! I offered Stanton, Venters, Singleton, Gibson and 1st pick in prospect draft. I'm thinking the 2nd round pick in the regular draft put Adam over the top in the sweepstakes.
