Am I forgetting someone or wasn't Greg Monroe clearly the 2nd best rookie (not including Griffin) this season? Doesn't speak too highly of last years draft either.

Everything has sucked compared to the 08 class.

Meaning you gotta be a freakishly athletically wing or a center to be picked #1 overal without playing any college ball.

I don't know a lot about Irving but it seems like he's getting the floor general CP3/DWill type billing...except those guys had a lot of college seasoning and still didn't go #1.

Why, because you say so? It didn't happen, but that doesn't mean it would never have happened -- you have a serious correlation/causation problem. While NBA teams will likely always chase the elusive big man, the times are changing. In just the short time since Paul/Williams were drafted, the game has substantially changed to favor guards/penetraters (and, still, point guards went 3-4-5 in that draft). A point guard was drafted No. 1 overall last year and two years before that (and won an MVP!), despite potential franchise interior players existing in both drafts. This is also an exceedingly weak draft.

Yeah if you take away Griffin that's right about where he falls. It's a total joke that he wasn't on the All-Rookie team and finished 6th in the ROY voting. I liked him going into the draft and he had a better rookie year than I expected. He still has the same physical limits but he's a good NBA starter.

The Pistons would be lucky to get Knight.

They're like the unathletic version of those Golden State teams from a few years ago--and endless collection of tweener forwards, combo guards, and swingmen

No, PGs without college experience have never been picked #1 because I said so.

Yes, that's true. But you attached that to a larger point with predictive value; that's the problem. Relatively short point guards basically never used to be picked No. 1 overall, regardless of experience level. From John Lucas III in 1976 to Derrick Rose in 2008, Allen Iverson (1998) was the only other player shorter than 6-foot-6. In thirty two years, only two players shorter than 6-foot-6 were drafted with the top overall pick. But times changed. Now, two of the last three picks have been such players, with the possibility that this year will offer a third in four years. The previous big-man-or-bust mentality with the top overall picked has dissipated. I find it highly unlikely that wouldn't have trickled down to high school point guards, if they were still eligible.

Monroe was my third (fourth at worst) favorite player in the draft and I really wanted the Pacers to be in position to draft him. Though Paul George looks very promising.

You probably want to ignore anyone who compares Kyrie Irving favorable to Deron Williams or Chris Paul.

Weak draft or not he's probably gonna go #1 which tells me he's at least in the ballpark as far as how good a prospect he's viewed as.

Plus DWill and Paul went 3/4 after Bogut and Marvin freakin' Williams. Not exactly world beaters either.

Yep I would love him but I don't see it. Very possible he goes 5 or 6 and they wouldn't take him if they're in the top 3. Though who the hell knows at this point. 99% of the mocks I've seen have them taking Biyombo if they pick 7th.

Cleveland with at least one top-three pick as does Utah.

Wow, Cleveland could get 2 lotto picks.

Haha, the pick that the Clips sent to the Cavs just to get rid of Baron is now #1. 2.8% chance of happening. Simmons was predicting this just because it's the Clippers. They now have 1 and 4.

Ouch for the Clippers. Imagine Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon and Kyrie Irving on the same squad.

And all they had to do was make it top-3 protected. I'm sure the Cavs still would have made the deal.

Some L.A. writer is saying the Clippers couldn't make that pick top-3 protected because of some rule. Anyone know what he's referring to?

If the future strike in the NBA lasts all of next season, what happens with the draft? Does 2 seasons worth of players all become eligible in one draft possibly?
