Nah, it's really easy to dispute since players put on that kind of show all the time. You really think Pie was going to start pounding on the ump if he was let go?

And yeah, a whackjob Birther "only" saying he's LIKE a savage and throwing banana chips at him is totally, totally different than calling him a savage.

I think we all watch plenty of baseball here. That kind of "show" absolutely does not happen all of the time.

Pretty much every season.

So one major leaguer, out of ~1000, in one game out of ~2500, acts like that.

Finally we agree.

Aw, you had to make something up. Never said it happens only once a season. Players needing to be "held back" happens waaaaay more than that each season.

"whenever he starts acting crazy i just put a spear and some of those big lip discs in his locker, let him know whats up"

If only people said someone was "acting like a [expletive]" instead of straight up calling them one! So many innocent misunderstanding could be avoided!

Yeah, this always works with the wife. "No, I didn't call you crazy, I said you're acting crazy". But, like Luke Scott, I really was calling her crazy.

Luke Scott cheerfully calling someone a savage is one of the more infuriating things I've pictured lately.

Hey look, Davearm's wrong again!

He didn't call him a savage. He said he's acting like a savage. There's a difference FYI.

And it's hard to dispute, looking at the behavior. Straight out of the Milton Bradley archives.

You've become an awful caricature of yourself at this point

i would like to know if davearm thinks george brett was acting like a savage during the infamous pine tar game.

That's not the term I would choose. And it's not the term I'd use to describe Pie either.

But I can certainly understand where Luke Scott was coming from with those comments.

I would challenge anyone to have a look at this clip and then say Scott might not have a valid point regarding the savage comment.

My favorite part was when he grabbed a bat and bludgeoned the umpire.

The ump really should have calmed the situation down and thrown some plantain chips at him.

Jose Offerman says hello

ah, the exception the proves the rule!

Hey man, those savage animals are capable of anything.

Oh lord how did I miss more davearm wrongness?

Care to elaborate, or are you just hoping to join the fanclub?

Definition of SAVAGE

1a : not domesticated or under human control : untamed

b : lacking the restraints normal to civilized human beings

You see nothing resembling that in the video I linked of Pie freaking out in a meaningless winter league game?

Or perhaps you also leap to the wrong conclusion that savage implies warpaint, spears, loincloths and bones through the nose.

Nope. Every so often you'll get a real nutjob in baseball like Bradley. Most of the time, however, it's just jocks venting by throwing a hissyfit and putting on a show for the fans and their teammates to either act tough or try to distract from how they just screwed up. That said, even someone like Bradley isn't a "savage." Civilized people fight and throw fits and rant and so on all the time. It can, and often is, a sign if immaturity or even mental illness, but to make the huge leap that someone throwing a tirade in a sports game is somehow suddenly a "savage" or an "animal" and divorced from civilized humanity is absurd, especially when it's coming from an birther oaf like Scott chucking banana chips at a young Hispanic player and talking about him like he's some kind of misbehaving pet.

So presumably he's looking down on guys when benches clear or mounds are charged or people celebrate a walkoff win...unless it's involving a team locked in a division/WC/postseason race.

Or maybe they're just ALL savages.

how do you know the game was meaningless?

Oh please. Is that the best you can do? If so, just quit while you're behind.

these players are paid for their participation in the winter leagues. there are playoffs in the winter leagues and championships are awarded. so again, why do you say the game was meaningless?

Alrighty I'll put you in the savage = cannibal camp too

So you were posting the definition to show that you're idea of "savage" is wrong and ridiculous? Because otherwise that post made no sense.

Jesus get a [expletive] clue. I said earlier that I wouldn't have chosen the term savage.

That doesn't change the fact that you are totally misusing it.

In this context, my use of the phrase meaningless, was meaningless. Take it out if you have a problem with it. My point is no different.
