Wait, you mean we're not done with the regular draft yet? That's unpossible.

At the current pace you could probably make this statement a week from now and still be accurate.

I'm perfectly fine with getting this one going now. And actually it probably doesn't matter too much if we go into the regular season still drafting since these are all mostly guys who won't be on big league teams anyway.

I don't believe anyone can be actually placed on rosters until the draft is over, however. So, we can start drafting and when the other draft is done, we can start actually picking them up after that.

Aack. I actually haven't done much research on this. I'm going to pick either tonight or tomorrow. Sorry.

Going to take you that long to come up with Taillon?

Just want to make sure there is no one else who hasn't been scooped up previously and is eligible.

how does picking up prospects during the season work? can we just drop one and pick up another one?

Basically.

1) There is a limit of 10 minor leaguers

2) We limits to the amount of playing time one can have in the majors in order to be in Roadkill's minors. I will let someone else state that, though it is in the rules.

3) Anyone actually in the major league minor system can be placed in Roadkill's minors.

4) Don't pick up anyone from the June draft.

Am I missing anything?

Here are the basics before we get too far into this draft (correct me if I'm wrong anywhere as I'm not expertly versed on all the rules either):

Any player with minor league eligibility can be drafted in this draft at this time.

Any player who was in the 2010 June Amateur draft that has been signed by their respective major league team is eligible for this draft.

Any foreign born player coming to the states to play this year can be drafted in this portion of the draft since we didn't allow them in the major league portion. They have to be allowed somewhere, I suppose. Further discussion will commence eventually on how to handle the Pac Rim, Central American signees, Cuban defectors, etc...

Once the draft is over, all minor league eligible players that fit the criteria above become free agents that can be picked up or dropped.

June 2011 Amateur draft players will not become available until the prospect draft before the 2012 season.

Once a minor leaguer no longer meets eligibility to be a minor leaguer, they must be placed on the major league roster, dropped or traded to a team that can place them on their major league roster.

Please notify someone with commish powers to add player names to the database if the player you are drafting has not yet been added to the CBS player pool.

As always, no trades of these players will be allowed while team rosters are not legal.

What of players drafted in June 2011 who get called up to the big leagues before the 2012 Prospect Draft - can we pick them up like free agents as we were able to last year?
Posted

Last year we required the minor league rosters to be kept legal throughout the draft. In other words, if you already had ten minor leaguers and drafted another you had to simultaneously drop one.

And Navin's right about what was allowed last year. That's how he was able to pick up Sale.

who's SABR? is that me?

yea, I think that is you.

I will drop a minor leaguer ASAP, but until the draft is over I am stuck.
Hadn't thought of that. Last year we were able to do it because we had the prospect draft before the regular one, so you were still able to drop players.

I don't see a reason why one would be required to be at 10 at all times during the prospect draft. Before I traded 3 or 4 guys to Juan, I had 7 guys with the potential to make the opening day roster of their major league teams, and some of them still might do so. And while it is true that I don't necessarily have to promote them to my major league team, I may just do that, which then reduces my numbers down immediately for each guy I do that with.

I think you would need to be a 10 before the season starts, just like the other roster issues. One can't make trades while their roster is illegal. Once Tim drops Bryce Harper to get down to the legal minor league roster size , he will become a free agent once he clears waivers.

After making my trade, I need 5 guys to have 10. I won't be offended if Navin has 12 minor leaguers while I still need 3 more to get to 10. I can either pick up 1 or 2 of the guys he drops or draft someone who hasn't been taken yet. Any undrafted player becomes a free agent.

I guess someone will have to explain to me why it's necessary to be at 10 at all times while we are allowed to extend beyond our roster for the major league draft. What's the difference?

I need help with this one. Sale was a 2010 amateur draft player that got called up to the majors?

We didn't require some sort of waiver process to claim this player? If someone was sharp enough to notice that a June amateur draft guy gets called up, they get to claim them and keep them?

I don't personally like that. Part of the reason we went to a prospect draft was because there are different levels of enthusiasm for the minors, and those who are more knowledgeable of minor league transactions can take advantage of others.

I think that the player should be announced that they have made the majors and that the waiver order should decide who wants to pick up that player. If he's just a reliever, someone may not want to waste their waiver claim on them. I would also think that if you make that waiver claim, you lose your spot in the upcoming prospect draft. Consider it your first pick, so to speak. That's my opinion on it, anyway.
