If Silva can pitch decently on Monday:

From MLBTR:

The Rangers aren't looking for a centerfielder as they believe that Julio Borbon will be okay after suffering an elbow injury, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. It's not realistic to expect the club to land a starting pitcher either as there isn't much out there

The Rangers are calling teams about Michael Young and are willing to eat about half of the $48MM remaining on his contract, tweets Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports

How about talking Shark into waiving his NTC and offering this deal:

Silva + Samardzija + Stevens/Berg/Diamond/Coello/Maine for Michael Young plus $20 million ($2 million in 2011, $9 million in 2012, $9 million in 2013).

Rangers get possible starter plus 2 young pitchers and save $17 million ($3 million in 2011, $7 million in 2012, $7 million in 2013)

Cubs get Young for $3 million in 2011, and $7 million for each of 2012 and 2013.

Silva was released this morning. Rangers wanted an actual piece or two for Young, not garbage, and we don't have money to make additions right now.

Let's frame this.

I realize what the Rangers want for Young, but they're kidding themselves if they think they can get a decent prospect or two and not eat most of his contract. As it is they have a $48 million utility IF/part time DH. They better hope a rich contending team gets hit with an injury. Also, every month that passes Young gets more untradeable.

If we have money to allegedly back up a Brinks truck into Albert Pujols's driveway next offseason, we have money to spend a few million here and there on some upgrades.

I was thinking Silva + Samardzija + Baker + Stevens/Berg/Diamond/Coello/Maine for Michael Young, Chris Davis & $18 million.

You don't seriously think the Rangers would do that do you? Hell why not throw in Augie Ojeda as well while you are at it. That would really sweeten the deal.

I was thinking Silva, Shark, Stevens, Berg, Diamond, DeWitt, Coello, JR Mathes, Hill, LaHair, a bag of balls, Augie Ojeda, a gator aid cooler, a half eaten cheese danish, all 4 versions of the infamous 1989 Fleer Billy Ripken card, and Rebel Ridling for Michael Young, Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, and Neftali Perez.

The Rangers are serious contenders, if not favorites in the divison. They arent looking to salary dump, they want to move Michael Young and get legit talent back in return.

Repeating what every beat writer has said. Pujols is irrelevant, because of all the cash coming off the books after this season anyway. Money should be available for deadline moves is what Hendry has said.

Now if the Cubs are serious about Michael Young, and assuming they pick up half the bill, I think he would be a more than solid addition, considering he fills our biggest hole, Fukudome+DeWitt+Coleman/Carpenter/J Jackson would be reasonable. They get a major league outfielder, a young utility player with potential, and a young major league ready starter. If they prefer, replacing Fukudome with Colvin is a possibility as well.

Silva has been judged a pile of poo by the 29 other teams, been released, and been given the Stone Cold Salute by Mike Quade. A happy ending to this thread.
