Well these are the hats that the Cubs were going to wear today on Ron Santo Day.

Cubs players have been given special No. 10 caps this morning in honor of Ron Santo Day at HoHoKam Park.

The No. 10 emblem that will be worn on the sleeve of Cubs' uniforms this year has been painted on the field behind home plate, and ceremonies honoring Santo will take place before the game against Cleveland.

(UPDATE: The Cubs won't be able to wear the hats during the game because they don't have an MLB logo on them.)

I hope they sell these. I would like one.

I'd be shocked if MLB let a team sell hats that didn't have the MLB logo.

So put an mlb logo on the back. An oversight on these wouldn't prevent a retail sale.

From Al at BCB:

Today, they gave away a blue cap with "10" on it in honor of Santo to everyone in the park; .... These caps must have originally been designed for sale, as they still had a price sticker on the underside of the bill -- $21.99. They’re among the nicest giveaway items I’ve ever seen at a baseball game.

Donating the proceeds to JDRF would be a nice touch too.

That part is assumed.

Sweet! My parents should each have one then.

having dealt with MLB's licensing folks, it's never that easy. MLB makes the federal government seem well organized.

How do you propose MLB prevent a team from selling hats that DON'T have MLB or one of its trademarks on it? Anyone can sell a blue "10" cap

Just an FYI -- When I worked for a minor league team and Jeff (I believe) Santo came to show his movie, he had a bunch of #10 hats for sale. I don't know where you would get one now, 6 or so years later, but you could try searching the web.

the agreement each team signs with mlb in which mlb purports to own and control the world.

btw - i love the tone. as if my doubt that the cubs could take some action without mlb approval offends you in some way.
