Ok so I won that drawing to purchase cubs red sox tickets in Boston. But I need some advice. And coincidentally, I am actually going to be one the east coast that weekend. But if these tickets are going to be in high demand and the price is right, I will probably sell them. But given the cubs play last year how hot are these tickets really going to be? Plus the experience of seeing the cubs may have similar intrinsic worth. So I guess what I'm asking is when I purchase tickets saturday should I sell them or keep them? what would you do?

Well, arguably the best time to sell them is going to be early on, basically by early April. With a year like this it's hard to tell how competitive they'll be, so coming off of last year now is relatively your best window to sell them for the most value. Of course, you could always chance it and if they are doing well then you'll be able to get more as the games get closer, though you're in a pretty good spot since even if they're stinking by the time they play the Sox that's still going to be a very in demand series.

I'd say don't try to buy them so that people who actually want to go can

Scalpers should die

I really can't blame scalpers for wanting to make easy money, but I philosophically agree with your statement. I know a lot of people who buy tickets only to re-sell them, but I personally would feel a little shady making a large profit at someone else's expense.

I've made money off tickets before, I just don't seek it out initially.

But happy to say I got Friday and Saturday tickets for Boston, 2 each. Pretty decent seats too, 3rd base ($100). Had a flight, now just gotta get a hotel.

Any recommendations?

Were you able to buy 2 and 2 under 1 login? If so, I screwed up. I thought I had to get all 4 tickets to the same game, so I didn't split mine up. Oh well. As for hotels, I'm staying at the Marriott in Cambridge. It looks really nice and only about a mile from Fenway, but fairly pricey.

I was also able to get tickets-- that wasn't as painful and stressful as I thought it would be. Myself and a friend both won the lottery so we each bought 4 bleacher seats to the same game (Saturday night) so a whole group of us can go. I can't wait!!

I got picked to buy tickets too, and I plan on reselling them (yes, I know, I'm terrible), anyone know how long it takes for tickets to arrive in the mail? It was the only option available.

Yes, I was...and I just noticed that option before submitting so I was sorta lucky.

Marriott will probably be the route I go -- my dad has a lot of points saved up apparently so I think he'll let me use them.

Congrats Tina, should be a good trip. This will be my 3rd time to Fenway so I'm pretty excited about seeing the Cubs there (and not at a ridiculous cost!). Last time I was there I saw the WSox the year after they won the WS and I paid $100/ticket for center field seats.

At someone else's expense? It's not like a baseball game is life and death. It's entertainment. I don't understand people getting upset about scalping.

And I've personally never scalped. To me, going to the event is worth more than the money made from it but I don't understand getting angry about people who don't feel this way.

If only the folks who ran the oil companies thought like you.

I got 4 RF bleacher tix to the Sunday night game, cannot wait! Still in need of 1 more ticket as a buddy is coming with but I am thinking of just getting an SRO ticket.

Hotels are slim pickens but was able to use my points to get 2 nights at the Harborside airport hotel.

I never said I was angry about it. In fact, I said I can't blame people for doing it. I just said that I don't feel right doing it myself.

I wouldn't sweat it. The "someone else" you refer to is the Red Sox. They could have had that money for themselves if they charged more.

As it is, with demand > supply, a lucrative secondary market is inevitable, regardless of whether or not you participate.
