I never knew about him until I worked on some Mariners telecasts the past two seasons. He was fun to listen to, with a wit that could still sneak up on you, and had some good exchanges with Mike Blowers. The man was an institution in Seattle and from all I heard just an incredibly kind and loving person. It's really too bad he couldn't have held on a bit longer to witness Felix take home the Cy. Rest in Peace, Mr. Niehaus. I hope you're enjoying a Grand Salami Sandwich with mustard on rye bread somewhere in the Great Beyond.
