the marlins' one, not the former relief pitcher.

dude hit his 22nd home run of the year last night (in 97 games); he has 22 homers, 1 triple and 21 doubles in 348 ABs. his line on the year is .259/.327/.514/.842, his K rate is no longer appalling (see pre-All Star Break) and he's not allergic to walks. and he's 20 years old.

kid is gonna be a beast and hit a hell of a lot of home runs (assuming he stays healthy).

If you wanna have some fun, go to his player page on the Marlins official website and watch the video highlights of his home runs. Some of them are mammoth "Holy [expletive]" home runs and there's a few opposite field flick of the wrist home runs in there, too.

Easily going to be the most powerful hitter in the majors for a long time. I remember reading somewhere, I think in Baseball Prospectus, where the first line was "If power is the last thing a player develops, then what's left for Mike Stanton?" or something along those lines. Had an 80 on the 20-80 scale for power at the age of 19. He's a hulking beast of a kid

yeah last night's home run he hit out just to the left of the 434 sign in CF. probably went about 450.

i don't think he was actually that well-regarded, mlb.com didn't even have a write-up for him in the draft tracker

that was a really rich draft, and we'll come out with Darwin Barney/James Russell and Marquez Smith or maybe Guyer as the most relevant contributors at the MLB level, which is disappointing

for Stanton, one of the fangraphs guys in a chat predicted he'll hit 50 HR in his prime and cited his off-the-charts strength. it's a weird disconnect seeing his stance and swing, which are so reminiscent of Garrett Atkins, being so powerful

When I was working for the BayBears in the minor league system they played the Jacksonville Suns when Stanton was on there. When I was setting up my video equipment near the clubhouses he walked by with one of his coaches. He was only 19 at the time but I've never seen someone in such peak physical condition before. He was 19 with the physique of a middleweight in their prime. He was born into a very nice gene pool, that's for sure
