The K-Rod incident in which he got into a fight with his girlfriend's father and punched him in the face has apparently now resulted in being the cause of a torn ligament in his thumb and he now needs season ending surgery on it.

It has resulted in more than that. Depending on the likelihood of this sticking, the assault charges and the ligament may not even be his biggest concerns right now...

The Mets are looking into the possibility of voiding closer Francisco Rodriguez's contract

They are looking into whether the contract, for $37 million over three years, can be voided based on Rodriguez injuring himself outside the course of play

 

They may or may not have grounds based on the conduct side of the incident as well, if I'm remembering correctly what Len and Bob were saying about it during the game tonight.

Ouch. The ESPN article mentions that the Mets are looking into ways to void paying him the rest of his salary this year, but voiding the entire contract is a little crazy. I know it was careless and messes up your season this year, but I would imagine K-Rod will still be effective next season. The last thing the Mets need is a weaker bullpen
