So far, decent-solid start for Archer. He ran into some trouble just now in the 4th, but he was coming off a long break as the Cubs had a long top of the 4th. He managed to get the DP ball to help him escape a 1st and 2nd, no out, middle of the order up situation unscathed.

The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx look like a pretty solid minor league lineup, with the elder statesman Limonta in the middle, along with Ackley at the top, Liddi, Peguero, Triunfel scattered through the lineup, and a couple other solid AA bats. It's a good test for Archer.

So far, 4 ip, 3 h, 1 bb, 4 K's, 57 pitches.

I love the fact that Brett Jackson forced Steve Bray to throw a ton of pitches to him and worked the count in his first two AB's (7 and 6 pitch AB's, leading to a single and a walk).

Edit: Looks like Archer had a pitch limit. He finishes

5.2 ip, 3 h, 2 bb, 6 K's, 88 (P) -55 (S), 6:4 GO/FO, currently responsible for man on 3rd.

Former Cub prospect Jose Pina got the save against the Chiefs today. His facial hair amuses me greatly.

Great debut for Archer. Chances of him and/or McNutt making BA's top 100 next year? I'm starting to think it's at least in the realm of possibilities.

I'd guess that the probability is high that we'll see one of them, probably Archer. McNutt may depend on how he finishes the year. Depending on call-ups, we may be looking at 4-5 on top 100 lists, and considering we graduate Castro and Cashner, that's pretty good.

A long ways to go, though.
