It's his second start. In return, Cashner is in the pen.

Not much on the hitting side of things today whatsoever. Glad to see Lee get 2 hits, Jackson seems to be struggling a tad right now.

On the pitching side though, nice to see Jackson have a solid outing. Even if we don't see Cashner as a starter at any point this season, maybe we will see Jackson, maybe after trading Lilly? I wish Rhee would start to show some consistency, but he still has time obviously and I don't know how much to expect with this being his first season off TJS anyway.

On the other hand, ABD keeps right on dealing. He's 25, while obviously a tad old for a prospect, surely he's turning some heads within the Cubs organization at this point. I'd certainly like to see him in AAA at some point this year, it's kind of hard not to think he's earned it already.

Jeff Samardzija with one of the weakest 2.50 ERA's ever. 18 IP, 13K, 12 BB, 2 HR ... but only 11 hits.

I can easily see someone in the Cubs management thinking he's "fixed" and giving him another turn on the merry-go-round.

If that means sending Cashner back to the AAA rotation I'm ok with that.

Any chance Bibens-Dirx gets to AAA this season?

Haven't paid too close attention to his peripherals. What are his GO/FO numbers normally? If he throws a lot of fly balls, he's going to be giving up a good number of HRs at Iowa, if he is called up. The ball flies out of that stadium.

His GO/FO this year is .91. Last year, in Low A, it was 1.31. Not sure how much you can take away from that as he was far older and experienced than the competition. Prior to that, he was a bit more of a flyball guy. His stuff doesn't suggest that he's a groundball machine either. He's a fairly good strike thrower, and he has deception in his delivery, which helps mask his overall average stuff.

I think ABD has pitched well enough for a shot at AAA at some point this year, but he doesn't profile as an impact guy, so that may make it harder for him to force his way up. The difference between ABD and say, a Mitch Atkins or even a Casey Coleman isn't all that much, and both Atkins and Coleman are pitching well. Mathes is the token lefty. Diamond/Jackson are pretty much in the rotation unless the Cubs go batty moving guys around.
