ST - 3/7: Cubs/Sox & Cubs/Dodgers games both canceled (Rain)

No thread yet so I guess I'll start it.

 

Anyway, split squad action today vs. the Dodgers and White Sox. Jeff Samardzija is supposed to get the start against the Sox in the televised game and Tom Gorzelanny will go in the Dodgers game (which also starts at 2:05).

 

I have no idea what the rosters are for the split squad yet.ot

This is all I got from Cubs.com regarding possible lineups.

 

Jeff Samardzija is slated to start on Sunday against the White Sox, while Tom Gorzelanny makes his first Cactus League start against the Dodgers at HoHoKam Park. This is the first of five split-squad games for the Cubs. Both Gorzelanny and Samardzija are competing for a spot in the rotation. Also, expect Mike Fontenot back at second base in Mesa. He's been slowed because of a strained right shoulder. Xavier Nady (elbow) is not expected to play.

 

Those of you praying to see Fontenot on TV today will be sorely disappointed.

I'm hoping Castro gets the start vs. Peavy. I want to see how he looks against a top tier MLB pitcher.

He played yesterday for a little bit but got injured. He's out 10-14 days with a knee sprain

I think that Tracys a sure thing to make the big league roster unless hes awful or gets hurt. he may be auditioning for the 2011 full time 3B job if Aramis opts out and isnt resigned and Vitters is still a few years away. You need a backup SS, so Blancos probably in, unless they decide to start Castro on the 25 man, which I dont see happeneing this year. Millar, Hoffpauir,and Fuld are the ones competing for the final bench spot, and that could just be a temp job while Nadys on the DL.

There's a 100% chance of rain in Mesa, possibly with thunderstorms. I think it's inevitable that both games wind up being canceled. That's a shame that it happens for one of the few televised games.

If the Dodgers game is played (which seems doubtful from what I saw about the forecast) I wonder if the entire roster would be available. I also wonder if WGN will televise it since the game they were planning to televise is canceled.
