kid's persistant, i'll say that much.

we have a player like that here. kevin barker has been a part of either 2 or 3 different organizations but in an odd quirk of minor league baseball affiliations is the franchise leader in several of the louisville redbirds/riverbats/bats offensive stats. i also think he has played the most games as a member of the franchise as well.

how much worse would he have been instead of Soriano last year?

I dont mind him playing left in Iowa and it really wouldnt bother me if he was called up if Soriano was put on the dl

Well it sure as hell better bother the people in power. Junk like Dubois has no place on a team with playoff aspirations.

I think a team with legit playoff aspirations need to hope that their everyday LFer doesnt have major injury issues. If Soriano would go on the 15 day dl, I would not be bothered by the hope that Dubois could put together a nice 2 week run. If Soriano would be hurt more long term I dont think the Cubs have much playoff hopes anyway

Why would Dubois get those starts over Nady?

I would hope he wouldnt. My guess is Dubois would not even be called up. It just wouldnt bother me if he was.

He could have been a little better, but he could have been much, much worse. His major league OPS' have ranged from .761 to .656 (most recent). Soriano posted a .726 OPS last year.

So Dubois' upside was probably around what Soriano did last year, maybe a little better. Soriano's upside, however, is 100-150 OPS points higher than that.

Like I have said, I hope Soriano is healthy and productive. I just think if needed Dubois could catch lightning in a bottle for a couple of weeks if needed, anything longer than that would be scary.

He could, but if Soriano gets hurt I would not want Dubois playing ahead of Nady. Bringing him up for the bench would be fine, but if Soriano gets hurt, Nady needs to be the everyday LF until he returns.

Bringing him up for the bench would not be fine. Dubois has not swung a bat in the majors since 2005. He has never batted higher than .239, and never had an OBP over .300. He is 31 years old. He is nothing more than marginal AAA filler.

If Dubois gets an at bat for the Cubs this year, it is going to be a VERY long season.

It's not like we have awesome OF prospects who are sure to be highly productive in a 2-week bench stint. Dubois has had marginal ML success in the past and isn't a butcher in the field (to my knowledge) so bringing him up for a short stint due to an injury would be ok. There are preferable options, I'm sure, but not significantly so (unless I'm forgetting somebody).

If Hoff doesn't make the 25 there's a much better option right there.

And Chad Tracy... Kevin Millar even... There's other options before Dubois. Heck... I even call Colvin before Dubois. Dubois should never see the Cubs bench ever again.

If Hoff isn't claimed off waivers (he's out of options, correct?), I'd probably agree. That said, Hoff's 2009 is very similar to Dubois' best ML season. Granted, Dubois' was in 2004. Like I said, there are better options but none are great options if a starter gets hurt.

He wont make the majors.

I'd imagine our LF depth chart looks something like this.

Soriano

Nady

Fuld

Hoff

Tracy

-- start looking at guys who might've been forced into semi-retirement or are on teams that may be out of contention

Colvin

Snyder

Millar

Adduci

-- start looking at other AAA teams

DuBois

Eh, you're probably right. I forgot about Fuld as well.
