This is more for discussion; hence why I didn't put it transactions.

Why is it so hard to sign a bullpen arm to shore up the 'pen? There's been Calero talk off and on all winter. There's been speculation of Chan Ho Park. With Jim Hendry's affinity to over-spend on mediocre relievers, why is it now taking seemingly forever to sign that "final piece"?

There's is absolutely no reason for a team as limited as they are money-wise at the moment to sign another reliever. They have more than enough in-house options.

Is Kiko Calero mediocre though? I realize last season might be a blip on his career stats, but I think he's worth a shot. Not an overpaid shot, just a 1 year, manageable contract shot.

I could stomach a signing like Calero if appropriate, but I can't stress enough the importance of saving payroll space. At times in the past people have shrugged off a $2MM deal here, a $4MM deal there, yet those very deals might preclude us from trading for an impact player this July (or hopefully earlier). Though this should all come as quite obvious.

Closer: Marmol

late innings: Grabow, Guz

long inning guys: Marshall, Gorz, Silva, Shark(whoever doesnt end up starting)

mop up/Other: Berg, Stevens, Gaub, Caridad, Parisi, Atkins, Patton, Gray

I dont know, if we could get Calero for cheap, or at least reasonable that would be super. Im good with Marmol as closer, and Grabow and Guz in late inning duty, but Guz has along history of injury, and if we lose him for any length of time, were looking at an ugly pen, especially as far as righites go. Berg, Caridad, and Stevens all looked good at times, but have no histoery to prove that they can be successful. If be good with 1 or 2 of the last group, but Id prefer to have 1 more proven veteran in the mix.

I assume Hendry is waiting because their demands will fall as the time for spring training nears.

Also the Theriot arbitration is a factor. With only a small amount of money left, the 800k spread is a factor. Once it is resolved I can see a signing happening quickly (I don't expect Theriot to win)

Maybe because somebody realizes it would be stupid to waste more money on relievers, or maybe because somebody figured out they aren't requiered by law to sign one.

Somebody in this organization? Now you're just being ridiculous.
