The pro bowl helped distract the media away from a superflous week of Super Bowl coverage. So instead of being really really tired of hearing about Freney's ankle I'm merely tired of hearing about it.

 

TV ratings were better and attendance at the game was better. The pre superbowl pro bowl was a big success.

Even though in order to get those higher ratings, they had to morph the game into the Pro Bowl except a smattering of non-Pro-Bowl-type guys like Johnny Knox.

 

So it's now the pseudo-Pro-Bowl. But! The ratings were higher 8-)

proof the pro bowl is infinitely worse than the all-star game: there's maybe 3 posts in this thread that dealt with what was actually going on in the game itself. the rest were debating about how stupid the game is.

I wouldn't call that proof, this is still a baseball centric website with game threads that rival the length of full season threads for other sports teams.
