I'm planning on going to Mesa this year during Spring Training and looking for some advice as to hotels, getting tickets to the games, maximizing my time (when do the minor league games start and where are they played, etc.). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

A great opportunity to get autographs is to go to Ho-Ho-Kam when the Cubs are playing a road game. They get ready for the game there and board a bus to the other team's ballpark. Been 6 years since I last went, but several players were pretty gracious with their time (even Sammy signed a few), since they were really only at arm's length from where we were standing.

we've been to ST for the last 3 years or so, and here are a few things to know:

1) the minor leaguers play at the Fitch Park complex, about 3-4 blocks south of HoHoKam...usually drills in the morning with games in the afternoon starting about 1/2way through March (until then pretty sure they practice all-day with a break at lunch). There are bleachers at Fitch, but not much shade so bring sunblock, a hat, an umbrella, or a combination of all 3 :-)

2) we usually stay around Country Club Drive. I can personnally attest that the Hilton Phoenix East / Mesa and the Hampton Mesa are both good spots. This year, we're trying something new and staying at the Holiday Inn because I got a substantially lower rate.

3) we usually see 4-5 games in 9 days or so and try and get to Fitch another couple of days. In seeing games in Phoenix, we usually try to go anywhere but HoHoKam it's similarly dumpy to Wrigley and not that great a spot to watch a game - this year, we're trying somewhere new and venturing to the Goodyear and will catch a game in Surprise and a couple in Tucson (one not cubs but dbacks / sox)

4) Our favorite lunch haunt near HoHoKam is north - a family-owned diner that makes everything from scratch - Cindy's AZ Cafe - 124 E McKellips, Mesa 85201. For breakfast, if we're not staying somewhere with something for free, we'll stop at the Basha's supermarket just south of Fitch for yogurt / fruit / etc. That addy is 339 E Brown Rd

Feel free to PM me with any specific questions!

Not sure if there's any recent discussion on spring training, so bumping this to see if anyone has had any more recent experiences/tips/advice with the new ballpark?

My wife and I have never been to spring training and are planning to be in Arizona March 30-April 4 for one game in Surprise, one game at Cubs Park and one of the games at Chase Field.

Harder to get autographs at the new place bc they don't enter from under the stands on the 1b side. Was told last year that you have to go next to their dugout and try to get them as they're coming back out. might still be able to get some if you arrive super early but with young kids it's hard to make them interested for 2 hours before the game. So my son was bummed last year. The play fields beyond the OF are pretty great for kids though.
