Didn't see this posted anywhere, but...

 

For the first time since 2000, the Cubs' pitching staff did not lead the majors in strikeouts. The Giants--no surprise there--led the bigs with 1302. The Cubs tied the Dodgers for second with 1272.

 

Pretty amazing, when you consider the turnover rate of the pitching staff from year to year. The only real constant is Larry Rothschild.

Throughout his entire career there have been a marked improvement (and regression when they leave) in pitchers strikeout rate when they come to Rothschild staff. There's also an increase in walks too, but not nearly as good as the strikeout increase. It's a not plus and Rothschild is a very good pitching coach. We've got three good ones in the Central right now.
