The video footage seems a little more ambiguous than the Angels blog claims, although it does look as though he may have spit directly on the ball. Part of me finds it difficult to believe Mariano would be so brazen/stupid, but stranger things have happened...

Anyway, is this a big deal? I'm inclined to say "not really".

If it was still baseball season then I'd probably care, but since they ended the season in early August this year I don't give a crap about what Mariano does to his balls in the offseason.
