3 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 4 K for antigua. liking him a lot - he's only 19 and is throwing well at low A.

brett jackson is back in the lineup for peoria. flaherty has his 20th home run; burke singled in the first.

samson and vitters hit back to back homers for daytona.

jackson is 1-2 with a home run and walk

flaherty 2-3 with a home run

burke 2-3 (2 singles)

antigua done with the following line: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 7 K, 1 HR. just turned 19 a couple of months ago... should see him on a lot of prospect lists this offseason.

welington castillo has 2 doubles in 3 ABs tonight. his first half was atrocious but since the ASB he's at .301/.339/.514/.854.

went to the daytona game,

Samson hit another home run

and then straight after, Vitters knocked a shot out of left field in about 1.3 seconds flat. an absolute missile.

muschko was solid, throwing strikes and mcdaniel looked like he was throwing hard, although walked 3.

solid night for daytonas offence,

campana 3/5 and robbed of a stolen base

vitters 2/4 and went to the right side!!! almost drew a walk on a 3-2 count, but grounded out the second

gonzalez with a double and a triple

Jackson day tomorow!! :)

Yeah - whoops. Rosa is on the Peoria DL as well.

I find it funny that, for all the guff Starlin Castro gets for his errors, a lot of people have given Hak-Ju Lee a pass for the same thing.

lee's defense was pretty bad early in the year but it's improved (at least he has cut way back on the errors).

elvis andrus made 32 errors in 106 games at low A, 31 errors in 125 games at high A and 32 errors in 109 games at AA. he leads the AL in UZR and has long been regarded as a premier defensive shortstop. errors are a terrible way to judge a guy's future defensive value, especially if the guy is in his teens as the errors are probably mostly due to a lack of experience and focus. if castro is still making 30+ errors 2 years from now i'll be concerned, but right now i'm more interested in his range, arm and ability to read the ball off the bat.

Playing top shelf major league defense at shortstop is one of the most difficult things to do in baseball. It takes some time to figure out how to do that.

I generally agree with what you are saying but... so is UZR.

I'd trust what they scouts say to some extent. A lot of the fields in the minors are not in great condition. For example, the field where West Tennessee plays is terrible.

i don't have a huge boner for UZR or other defensive metrics, but by all accounts, andrus has tremendous range at SS and a very good arm, though he does make a careless play here and there. still, the rangers have given up the fewest runs in the AL (think about that for a minute) and the rangers are #5 in defensive efficiency. i have to think that andrus is a pretty big part of that.
