Former Cub Darin Downs Struck in Head; in Serious Condition


MLB.com[/url]"]ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Rays Minor League pitcher Darin Downs is said to in serious, but stable condition while in intensive care after being struck on the head with a line drive while pitching for Double-A Montgomery on Monday.

 

Downs suffered a fractured skull and is being cared for at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

 

The 24-year-old left-hander, starting for the Biscuits, was struck on the left side of his head by a line drive in the fifth inning off the bat of Christian Marrero of Double-A Birmingham.
