So this offseason, after continuing the Chicago Bear tradition of completely ignoring needs during the draft, the Bulls stood pat to position themselves as a potential 2010 player. "2010 Free Agent Class Mania" being possibly the biggest sports reporting-built facade in the history of pro sports. Wade stays in Miami. Bosh probably goes to Miami. Lebron stays in cleveland or joins the Brooklyn Nets. Amaré stays in Pheonix. Manu/Nash/Dirk are all old and unlikely to leave. Yao may never play again.

Joe Jackson is probably the only interesting 2010 story, though maybe the least covered. Hes what we need, he could definately leave, and considering the Gordon signing may not be a piston.

Im sick of hearing about the 2010 class, and really hope it doesnt dominate Paxson and Gar's forward thinking going into the season.

back to the subject: seems like every team is trying to set up for a run at these guys, and most won't get them, which means that a lot of teams will be really far under the cap in '10, or that they'll overpay for mediocre FA's

I think a lot of owners will use the "we missed out on the premier guys so we didn't sign anyone" excuse as a way to cover their obvious slashing of payroll because the team is losing money.

According to a lot of articles and a few Bill Simmons podcasts, numerous teams in the NBA are hemorraging money right now and are just waiting for contracts to expire so they can save cash. I think the days of overpaying for mediocre/bad players may be on hiatus for a few years in most sports (unless you're Jim Hendry).
