it all comes down to this. one game back of nccubs for the last playoff spot and we face off this week. unfortunately, i have 38 starts to choose from and i will inevitably choose poorly.

My pitching choices:

Lohse vs. Cincinnati

Jackson @ Boston

Feldman @ Cleveland

Marquis vs. Pittsburgh

Washburn vs. Kansas City

Harang vs. Washington

Cook @ Florida

Jackson vs. Kansas City

Lohse vs. San Diego

My initial inclination is to sit Lohse for his two starts since he's basically been putrid since returning from the DL. I'm definitely sitting him today (watch for a complete game shutout). Depending on what's reported about Cook this week (he's already been pushed back from Tuesday to Saturday because of a toe injury; he was originally slated for two starts this week) I could decide to use Lohse's second start instead.

Ho-hum start to the week. Adam and I both made bad pitching decisions (Adam by sitting De La Rosa, me by sitting Lohse and starting Jackson).

i can't decide what i like best about de la rosa's start.

a) that it was on my bench.

b) that it was against the cubs.

c) that tracy left him in for a hundred and [expletive] twenty five pitches in an eight run game, meaning he'll probably pitch like [expletive] in his next start this week.

Schierholtz just lost his minor league eligibility last night. I'll either drop him or move him to my major league roster and drop somebody else before next week's games begin. I'll likely have the same issue with Norris in a few more weeks.

If I wind up choking away my playoff spot I'll feel like the 2004 Cubs. Or like Tiger Woods choking away the lead in the final round of the PGA.

By the slimmest of margins (3 points scored) I still have 3rd place over Adam on the tie-breaker.

Take care of business this week and I hope to be able to provide you with a one game cushion over him going into the last week.

There will actually be two weeks remaining, not one. This is week 20 and there are 22 weeks. That would still be big if I can increase my tie-breaker lead over him.
