I think fixing the black hole of offense at second is more important than SS defense right now. I'm ok with having a Theriot level defensive SS. I haven't seen Scutaro play enough to be able to actually comment on his defensive abilities, so I will defer to those who are more SABR inclined or have seen him play.

The thinking would be to look for a decent hitting SS and then move Theriot to second. It would allow us to widen what we're looking for and not be forced to only look at second basemen.

Precisely, I was responding to the objection over Scutaro's defense. I'll take Theriot at second with Marco's production at SS of .284/.382/.414/.795 and a slightly above average OPS+ of 111 this year over whatever production the second base platoon has produced this year.

Ah, I understand now.

well yeah but this is a career year; most of the time he's a slightly below average offensive player - decent OBP skills but not much power. he's basically ryan theriot but 4 years older.

i guess one could do worse, but i don't know how many theriot/fontenot/scutaro/miles types we need.

hey maybe we shouldn't have left zambrano out there so long.

It seems like every Zambrano and Lilly start he leaves them out there 2 or 3 batters too long. Oh well.
