Question on player salaries

This is mostly dealing with guys who aren't signed to major league contracts.

 

I know the ML minimum is more than the MiL minimum salary, so what happens when a guy gets called up to the major league team? Take Bobby Scales, as an example, who had no ML service time coming into the year. When he (or a guy like him) got called up, what happens to his salary?

 

Does this change if the player has any sort of service time?

I could be wrong, but I think it actually changes when they get added to the 40 man roster.

Let me see if I can answer your question, while in the minors the players gets paid the MILB salary. Upon call-up and being added to the 40 man roster players makes MLB minimum(as in the transactions it usually states players contract purchased by team). When sent back to the minors player gets a percentage of the MLB salary but considerably less. Each year player is on 40 man but not eligible for arbitration during Spring training team will meet with these players and negotiate a salary that usually gets a bump up every year. This would also pertain to their MLB Salary. Hopes this helps but yes once being added to the 40 man is a hefty pay raise.

That makes sense. I figured when a guy was called up he got the MLB minimum, it was more of a what happens when he gets sent back down sort of thing. I wasn't sure if he still made the MLB minimum (I doubted this), the MiLB minimum or something in between.
