They have some pieces we could acquire that might not cost much. Clint Barmes and Ryan Spilborghs wouldn't necessarily come cheap but I don't think the Rockies would ask for a king's ransom. The same goes for Huston Street. I'm just spitballing here for ideas, but the Rockies are seven games out of first and I can't see them catching the Dodgers.

exactly. The Rockies would like some pitching, I think.

 

And I'd much rather have Seth Smith than Spilly. They're obsessed right now with playing Carlos Gonzalez (acquired in the Holliday trade) even though he is absolutely dreadful at the major league level. He has K'd 21 times in 62 AB's. Lots of Rockies fans around here are pretty upset that Tracy is giving Gonzo so much more playing time over Smith who has proven he can handle ML pitching.

 

Smith is a lefty bat, with good speed, who so far is:

 

.289/.409/.496, 133 OPS+ with 6 HR, 6 doubles, and 2 triples in 135 AB's.

 

If Milton had those numbers right now I'd be jumping for joy.

 

Although, I'm not really sure how much the Cubs need another OF right now.
