Can someone might tell me what the Cubs see in Patton that makes them sabotage their bullpen for the sake of keeping him in the org? Because if his ceiling is slightly above average middle reliever what they are doing isn't worth it?

Is there something you guys see in him that suggests his ceiling is higher than that? Because it's obvious that he isn't on the roster to aid us in winning a championship this year.

Didn't Patton come from the Rockies? Wherever he came from I can see an organization getting upset at losing him as he has decent stuff. I wonder if the Rockies got a Cubs farmhand in the Rule5 draft recently and this was payback. That is completely a guess and I doubt it's at all true or close to reality, but that is the only reason that I can come up with to explain the Patton scenario and - yes it does feel like they are willing to sacrifice the pen this year to do whatever they can to keep Patton around for the full year.

Yes, it is common for major league front offices to award roster spots based on "revenge".

The only reason I can come up with is that the people running the Cubs are underqualified for the positions.

Yeah Patton and Hart should definitely be gone before Ascanio, although Ascanio hasn't been that great either. If we could see the 2008 MLB version of Shark that would be nice.

Ascanio has been great vs RH hitters.

Angel Guzman is starting for Peoria today so if all goes well for Angel, it might be a short stint for Samardzija (or Hart) in the big leagues.

The Cubs never use their 7th reliever unless they're in extra innings or they're down a lot. Might as well be Patton as anybody else in that role. Hendry probably sees Patton's ceiling as a future closer otherwise he wouldn't bother.

This team has much bigger problems than David Patton.

Yes, like the lack of hitting, which can be helped by increasing the number of bats on the bench instead of wasting a roster spot on a 7th freaking reliever.
