Minor over Matzek? Brutal. Simply brutal.

If it's true that he wants Porcello money, he's going to plummet.

Yanks would probably gobble him up.

They'll have their pick of the litter at the rate things are going. If the Tigers don't take one of the HS pitchers, the Cubs could actually have a good shot at someone like Jacob Turner, Tyler Matzek, Matt Purke, or Shelby Miller.

This is starting to remind me of the Jered Weaver/Stephen Drew draft.

I thought Turner was the one demanding Porcello money?

Oh well... good talent slipping further certainly isn't a bad thing.

I almost hope so because we've been linked to Turner. So if we would be willing to pay near Porcello money to Turner, i'd hope that means we have the money to spend it on someone else if they were to fall. I've been skeptical with the ownership thing, but it'd be nice if we didn't have to be conservative.

He was. However, a lot of the other HS arms apparently have decided they want Porcello money, too.

More from BA

10. Nationals: Stanford righthander Drew Storen.

At No. 9, Tigers are deciding whether to spend big (California HS lefthander Tyler Matzek, Missouri HS righty Jacob Turner), smaller (Texas HS righty Shelby Miller) or a little smaller (Arizona State RHP Mike Leake).

At No. 11 the Rockies will take the most signable high school pitcher, and that Arizona State righthander Mike Leake is not in the equation.

Here's to the Tigers picking Leake. They're big spenders that've had quite a bit of talent fall their way over the years (Maybin, Miller, Porcello).

If Detroit passes on the signability prep arms, they'll likely tumble past 13.

Conspicuous by his absence at this point: former Missouri righthander Aaron Crow, who apparently isn’t coming off his $4 million demands that caused him not to sign last year. He still could come off the board but his name isn’t coming up—yet.

I'm guardedly optimistic with everything going crazy at the last moment here, but Wilken seems to disappoint me every year... no matter who is on the board. And there's no guarantee anybody we really want will actually drop.

I really think we will take another guy we werent linked to with the first pick. A guy like Poythress or Krauss wouldnt shock me. I wouldnt mind Jeff Malm.

What in the hell is with that set?

That's where the draft is actually happening, I think. No conference hall or auditorium or anything... the MLB Network set.

It looks like they lifted it from a high school play.

I would love to have Malm, but he's a bit of an overdraft there. Granted, there's no way he lasts til our 2nd pick.

The one I keep thinking is our big sleeper is Kentrail Davis. He's the quintessential Wilken pick. The only thing is, I'd think we'd have heard something about a predraft deal if they were going to risk nabbing him.
