several interesting matchups today. Anaheim/Boston, Philly/Pittsburgh, NYR/Washington, Chicago/Detroit, Calgary/Edmonton. Good day for the NHL. If only the NHL had a real home instead of one that broadcasts two days a week. /facepalm

agreed.

i know the pens will play well tonight after laying a complete egg against phx last night. they're already up 1-0 after a power play goal following a phantom penalty on danny briere (probably assessed by the wildly-inept eric furlatt)

I thought the same thing. Also, if you are going to be on a network that only covers your sport twice a week, at least try to schedule compelling games on those nights

i think they've done a decent job of that (wsh/bos, wsh/phi) but being stuck on two nights a week is terrible. especially considering that one of those nights is usually either monday or wednesday, and those days are terrible for hockey.

I dont understand why versus doesnt open it up more anyway. Does Bullfighting really get higher ratings then hockey? I think Versus should also create an alternative to Sportscenter that has some more hockey coverage. Not really trying to compete with Sportscenter, but give an alternative sports highlight program. I am not saying to not throw in baseball, football, and basketball highlights and scores, but to make sure that at least every hockey game has highlights shown. Lastly do whatever it takes to get your network in every TV in this country without people having to pay extra.

I would enjoy every part of this. Especially since I don't have Versus.

for some reason we play one time (friday) in the next 11 days after tonight's game. i have no idea how that ends up happening in an olympic year.

Columbus is playing for the first time in a week tonight. Again, no apparent reason why

my god, Fox Sports Ohio are a bunch of cheap bastards. The CBJ/PHX game is on tonight, but not in HD. The HD feed is just a DirecTV logo and elevator music. Christ

the canucks have a pretty severe lack of offensive depth without dsedin and demitra.

kesler is good though. i didn't realize how good he was offensively last season, and he's really impressed me to start this year.

kesler is really good all around. it was a good move for us to sign him to an offer sheet; unfortunately vancouver wasn't stupid and matched it.

i'm wondering if henrik sedin will drop bricks on his own left foot until it breaks, since the sedins seem to be deathly afraid of distinguishing themselves from one another in any way.

Salo is out a couple months now too. Tough start for Vancouver. Not that I'm sympathetic.

Orr and Koci went in an epic bout early on tonight in Toronto. Will post video when it's posted on youtube, which it will be.

detroit is getting shelled by buffalo tonight. the last 2-3 years detroit's roster has been so talented, and they have so many good defensemen and backchecking forwards, that they've been able to overcome average goaltending, but i wonder if they're slipping a bit now. lidstrom, as good as he is, is 39 now, rafalski is 36, lilja 34 and meech/lebda are mediocre. plus draper, maltby and holmstrom are long in the tooth and bertuzzi is a shell of his former self. i dunno, second and third lines of leino-filppula-cleary and holmstrom-williams-abdelkader just don't seem all that great to me.

BJ's off to a 4-1 start. Not sure how much to put into that

they actually have some nice wins... at vancouver and home win over calgary.

i maintain that ken hitchcock is a terrific coach. the flyers were really good most of his 3+ years there and the year he got canned they were pretty bereft of talent (plus waiting for carter/richards to grow into stars). and, i think that having played in hitch's system helped make guys like carter and gagne into good two-way players and helped make richards into a great one.
