Former Major League pitcher Mark Fidrych has died, the Worcester District Attorney's office announced on Monday.

The D.A.'s office said Fidrych was found by a family friend underneath a pickup truck at his Northboro home around 2:30 p.m. He appeared to have been working on the truck at the time of the accident.

Fidrych was known as "The Bird" for his colorful antics on the mound. He was also famous for talking to himself and to the baseball.

Bad day for baseball.

I suppose that's the last of it then? They say deaths come in 3's, right? I hope this is the last of it, I hate crappy baseball news. Why couldn't this have happened with cast members of The Hills?

They were just talking about him when we were playing the Astros in reference to Jose Valverdes goofy manerisms on the mound.

It was so strange. Today they were showing Harry Caray announce the Cubs '84 division title. It made me miss Caray. It reminded me of a Phillies game I was paying attention to last week. Kalas called it of course. I got on ESPN.com five minutes later and see he's dead. My dad called me later that day and told me a pitcher died that used to pitch on the Tigers in the '70s and was real good for a short time. He didn't think I would know who it was, but I asked if it was the Bird. He said yes. I immediately thought of what they were talking about during the 'Stros game. It was so weird.

I loved watching both......I mean Fidrych.

His warm up and between innings were classic. after that first year we thought "here is te next Denny McClain and he will win 30 games."

Marilyn is just way to easy of a joke

Out of nowhere on Friday, my coworker and i were like randomly throwing around names of ballplayers from the 70's and i mentioned Fidrych. Too bad.
