Gaudin, Padres Agree To Minor League Deal

Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that the Padres have signed right-hander Chad Gaudin to a minor league deal.

He'll head to San Diego on Sunday for the official signing and a bullpen session. The Padres are only required to pay $400K of the $2MM he's owed for 2009, with the Cubs picking up the rest of the tab. Gaudin went 2-1 with a 10.26 ERA this spring, but he might just find a spot in the Friars' bullpen once he works through whatever was plaguing him during camp.

Too bad the Cubs themselves didn't sign him to a minor league deal after he cleared waivers and hoped that he could work out his problems in Iowa. He could have come in handy later in the season if he could right himself.

The San Diego Union Tribune reports that the Padres may call up Chad Gaudin to make Tuesday's start against the Rockies.

Josh Geer was initially scheduled to pitch the game, but was needed in relief of Shawn Hill on Saturday. Signed to a minor league deal two weeks ago, Gaudin has thrown 8 2/3 scoreless innings at Triple-A.

Good luck Chad. Time to make Hendry look worse than he already does.

Thats why Im not being paid 3 million dollars or whatever to make these decisions, and Jim is, He should know the difference between a proven major league pitcher and a guy who had a good spring training.
