I'm happy to see this, the Nats need something to build upon. If they can suck and draft/sign Bryce Harper next season then things could finally be looking up for them.

Any chance Strasburg gets called up right away and we end up having to facing him soon? Or does he get shut down for the year and called up at the start of next year.

No chance, the guy hasn't pitched in months.

He might get a cup of coffee at the end of the season. I imagine he'll be sent to their rookie affiliate to be evaluated in the near future.

Odds are, he'll have a stipulation in his contract that gets him a call-up sometime in September.

That would be interesting and would probably mean that he would start next season in the majors as they would have no reason to push his arbi clock back.

LeVon Washington didn't even get into Florida. I guess he's going the JC route but I don't see why you would pass up a chance to be coached up by the Rays organization when they're giving you fair value. It's not like he spurned the Rays for a college education.

Correct, you can see why that would be so appealing to him. He wouldn't be the first to have that in his contract - Andrew Miller got that from the Detroit Tigers a few years ago.

From the standpoint that the Franchise needs anything they can get from a marketing standpoint it might not be terrible in effort to sell any season tickets.

A day after agreeing with Strasburg on a record-breaking contract worth $15.1 million over four years, the Nationals set about lowering expectations for the San Diego State pitcher, saying he won't necessarily be in Washington's rotation in 2010. Says Rizzo: "If he earns it, and he's ready for it, then we'll see where his talent takes him."

Strasburg gets a $7.5 million signing bonus payable over three years. His 2009 salary is the $400,000 minimum, which comes to a prorated $102,732. He gets $2 million in 2010, $2.5 million in 2011 and $3 million in 2012.
