Both my guys are still available so now I must make the tough decision.

Apparently he's a bad pick....................

I hope I keep making bad picks.

Wasn't saying they were bad picks. Honestly just hadn't thought of Liriano. I would say you could have waited another round or two on him so it wasn't the best but not bad. Lackey was a good pick.

As for my pick ... I'll make a small gamble and take Manny Ramirez. I don't like him as a player and with him not signed yet I'm a bit worried he will holdout for part of the season but his value is just too good at this spot.

This gives me three of the top 4 guys in BA from last year, three guys who walk a lot, score runs, and hit homeruns. I guess offense is going to be my strength. I normally go pitching so we'll see how this works.

You're probably just looking at 2008 stats. Liriano didn't pitch much because he came back in September. That said, he put up All-Universe numbers upon his return. In my eyes, he's as good.........maybe better than anyone in baseball.

I've been looking at 2008, 2007 and three year average stats. He just didn't pop in my head as consideration. With his feuding with the Twins management and injury issues I just don't consider him a round two keeper. He's got the potential to be the Cy Young but he also has more risk than most early round guys.

And I wouldn't call 6-4 3.91 ERA All-Universe.

He said when he returned from the minors... when he did that he went...

11GS 6W 1L 65.2IP 2.74ERA 60K

He gave up only 7 more ER and had 6 more BB in those 65 innings than he did in the 10 he had to start the season before being sent to the minors

I stand corrected. I forgot about Liriano's first stint.

With a huge leap of faith, and with the 21st pick in the Expansion Draft, The Big City Sliders select Rich Harden.

Please don't die, Rich

Well, I can rest assured that I won't make the biggest draft mistake this year.

If he starts 24 or so times this year he will finish in the top 10 for pitchers in points.

LOL. Yeah. I'm taking a huge gamble, but if he's healthy there's no one better than him on the mound. I'd be completely satisfied if he makes 20-25 starts. But I like taking risks, they make me feel better if they pan out. If they don't, I won't be shocked by it. If they do, I feel like the smartest man alive, lol

You supporting Harden's pick here is interesting, considering you already questioned Liriano (called him a risk) and Halladay (because he's not exempt). There are at least 3 pitchers rated higher than Harden with exempt status after this season, and a couple of them are rated nearly 30 spots ahead of Harden. Not saying Harden was a terrible pick, but he might have been available in the 2nd round of the league draft, much less the 5th of the Expansion Draft.

As a Cubs fan, I hope he's a Top 10 pitcher in the league. As a fantasy owner, He wouldn't be in my 5 man rotation right now, especially considering his shoulder questions already in the spring.

I admit I wasn't thinking about the exemption status. Not with any of these picks. Never crossed my mind. Had it I might've selected a different pitcher. But honestly, I don't think I would have. I'm not banking on keeping him at the end of the season, and of the pitchers who I'd like to draft and keep, I don't think they'll be chosen for quite some time so I went with a risky pick and am now hoping for 20-25 starts of pure unbridled pwnage on the mound.

Your team, your philosophy. You don't have to defend it to me. Especially since I have been the perennial bottom dweller in this league for 3 years.

I have a feeling you won't be a cellar dweller this year. :^o

Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence. Luckily, I have about 3 or 4 teams who I feel that I am better than right now.

Nuke's Bombers select Vladimir Guerrero and Joba Chamberlain.

Joba is one of 3 guys I would have definitely taken over Harden at this point in the draft. Good find. The fact that he was listed as a Reliever and not a starter might have hurt one or two owners who didn't think to look there.

Actually Joba was listed under SPs on the first page, if you sort by projections. I was going to take another SP along with Joba but decided against it since Abreu will be protecting Vlad in the lineup now, so Vlad should return to his standard 35-110-.300. I'm not real familiar with all the rules but Volquez has 2 exempt years left and Joba has 1 correct? If not please correct me.

Harden when healthy has a lower ERA, more strikeouts, and on a much better team meaning more likely to get wins.
