Year in and year out my friends have a Yahoo Fantasy Baseball league. I'm one of the few who take it seriously and would like to make it a pay league but no one else wants to. What I'd still like to do though is have at the very least a keeeper league (although a Dynasty League would be my preference)

Basically what I'm asking is...

1) Does Yahoo offer keeper leagues?

2) If not, what other sites offer keeper leagues?

3) Do they cost extra?

4) Which one is typically considered the best to use?

Thanks

We run our keeper league through yahoo and just keep the records offsite.

How can you keep players on your next year roster though? Do you just make a vow to not draft each others keepers? We run a live draft and undoubdtedly there's always a few people who miss it and run off pre-drafts and have no control over their picks at some point

Yeah we run ours offline, it's more fun that way to make a day out of it watching college basketball, drinking and making fun of people for awful picks. Yahoo did add this year where our previous seasons results are archived through our league page, so maybe it's possible to run a keeper, I'm not sure, I don't run mine.

BUT, if you have people spread all over the country, that won't work.

We do keepers through Yahoo, and like you guessed, we just pick them all in the beginning of our online draft. But of course, everyone needs to be actually drafting OR if they are doing autodraft they can set their draft priority and just take out everyone elses keepers and list their keepers first, but we've never taken that risk. Everyone sends their keepers to the commish about 2 weeks before the draft and he sends them out to the league so you know whos keeping who.

We always have a few people that can't make it due to not living in the area. We skype them in. In years past when we were all in school we did an AIM chat with the commissioner constantly updating the geocities draft board.

But yeah, you need people responsible enough to pay attention and not keep drafting Ryan Howard as a 15th round steal.

That's what we do too. Everything "keeper" about the league is down offline. We have an in-person draft, which admittedly makes it a lot easier. We created some other goofy rules about drafting prospects, things like that. This will be the 8th year of the league and the 4th as a keeper league. We've only had to replace one guy during all that time.

Awesome. Thanks for the tips guys. I might need to try that at the end of this year. In general, how many keepers do you allow each team to keep? And are there specific rules, like you can only keep players who were drafted from the 5th round and after, etc?

Mine keeps more players than I've ever heard elsewhere. We get 12 keepers. We also do a 5 round prospect draft every year. If one of your prospects loses rookie eligibility you can keep him as your 25th round pick the following season.(and on up for multiple graduated prospects.

25 man rosters, 10 man max on prospect rosters with them only being acquired through the draft. Once you promote a prospect who exceeds rookie eligibilty you can't send him back to your prospect team.

We're dorks.

We keep it simple, 5 keepers, no funky rules or restrictions. If you do it online and have an odd amount of keepers remember to start your draft in the opposite order than its supposed to be so when it gets to your "real" first round, people are picking in the right order.

We keep 4 out of a roster of 21. You can keep a guy for a limit of three seasons. We set a February 1 deadline for naming keepers. I just got the last guy's list today. Not too shabby. :D

There are other rules, in terms of trading keepers for draft picks between now and the draft. It is allowed, but they must be even trades. In other words, no compensatory draft picks would be given. I'm trying to remember the other rules pertinent to the keeper system. I know we wrote up a ton of them, but few if any ever come into play. It's a solid group that has been playing for years, so we don't really have any issues come up.

i can't speak to yahoo baseball but yahoo football allowed for keepers this past season for the first time. the first round is for the keeper, the commish must set it though.

Wow, it would be nice if they added that feature to baseball this year. Shouldn't they be opening up baseball for registration soon? I seem to recall it always being the first week of February. If I don't have the league set up within hours of Yahoo making it available, I'll be flooded with e-mails. Needy bastards.
