Yeah he's going to fly up draft boards if he's healthy. His ceiling rivals anyone's outside of Strasburg's among draftable college arms. Just staying healthy will go along way to cementing his status as a top ten pick.

Found some stuff on San Diego LHP Sammy Solis. He's been experiencing some tendinitis. San Diego and San Diego State have a four game set this weekend. It looked like it would be Matt Thorton vs Stephen Strasburg on Thursday, but Thorton threw tonight. That means we'll probably a Strasburg versus Kyle Blair matchup, quite the headliner. Maybe Solis will be good to go. Strasburg versus Victor Sanchez is interesting to see.

Strasburg's done. He only struck out 18 more in 8 innings.

If you're keeping track, that's a 45:4 K:BB in 20.1 innings. And that's 45 out of 77 BF striking out (58%)

i suspect his prospective employer is not thrilled to see him running up those kind of pitch counts to start the season.

Those kind of pitch counts are, sadly, standard in college baseball.

I'm glad to see he finally faced a good team last time out.

Posted
Those pitch counts aren't really anything super worrisome. He's giving up less than a baserunner per inning, so he's spending the majority of his pitches in the windup. Plus, college starters get more rest between starts(although the second start being on 3 days rest isn't too smart), this last outing was on 9 days rest.

unless they have spring training for college teams, aren't they pretty much jumping from no game action to throwing 115 pitches? seems pretty dangerous for guys aged 18-21.

Truffle falls on his face again. Amateurs aren't vags. They are in shape and throw 12 months a season. They don't take a five month vacation in the middle of the year. They sometimes might take the holidays off during Christmas.
Posted
ah yes, "aren't vags." hey i'm meph, i'm a tough guy who lives in texas and drives a big-ass pickup truck, not one of these 18 year old vags who doesn't want to throw 115 pitches in february on 3 days rest.

I don't think anyone put Kyle Gibson's slider in play tonight. They were only playing Ball State, but still, he could've thrown that thing 100 times and gotten 20 K's. Instead he got 13 K's in 8 IP, with 6 hits and 1 walk netting BSU 1 run.
