SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Sammy Sosa is still waiting for an offer to play in the major leagues, according to a report published by Dominican newspaper Listin Diario.

Sosa, who had previously expressed his intention to retire from baseball after the next World Baseball Classic in March, believes that he can still have an impact at Major League Baseball level.

"I still don't have an offer and I shouldn't be looking for offers out there," said Sosa, the National League MVP in 1998 and the only hitter to surpass 60 or more homers in a season on three occasions. "Any team who wants to sign me should have the initiative and make an offer."

I'd take his 1.024 OPS against lefties. I'd be all in favor of Sammy as a cheap alternative to Milton Bradley. An outfield of Soriano, Pie/Reed, Kosuke/Sammy would be decently productive, I'd think.

Sadly, there's now way it'd happen, though.

i would probably have a heart attack if he were able to achieve an ops over 1.000 against lefties this season.

it was only 139 pa's. it would be maybe the 15th most shocking thing to happen next year.

I knew it wasn't in many ABs, but that's the beauty of a platoon - you can take advantage of the low #s of PAs.

I'm not sure Sammy would repeat the 1.024 OPS again, but I think he could give us decently over .900 against lefties. I'd take that for a cheap, one-year deal.

I'd take him back. My man-love for Sammy knows no bounds.

And at the end of the season, retire his #21 to the right field flagpole.

Marquis would have to me moved...................

I like this deal.

he wasn't really close to a 1.000 OPS in 2004 and 2005, had a .376 BABIP against LHP in 2007 and barely eked out a 1.000 OPS. he'll be 40 years old and hasn't played 2 of the past 3 seasons. his 2007 numbers against LHP scream "fluke" and his bat speed and ability were clearly declining from 2003 onward. it would be very shocking if he could post a 1.000+ ops against LHP, with any sort of sample size.
