Neifi saved the Cubs. It was Sept. 27, 1998, when the Cubs' Wild Card hopes appeared to be dashed when the Cubs lost to Houston 4-3 in 11 innings while the Giants were leading the Rockies. However, the Rockies came back, and Neifi's home run in the 9th beat the Giants 9-8, forcing a one game playoff the next day between the Cubs and Giants for the Wild Card. The Cubs beat the Giants 5-3 to win the Wild Card (the only time to date that the Cubs made the playoffs via the Wild Card; 2004 should have been the second time). So Dusty was right about Neifi saving the Cubs; he was just a few years late. :D

Haha, I remember that game. When Neifi came to the Cubs, I was thinking "Well, this guy doesn't seem like too great of a ballplayer, but at least he saved us back in 98!"

Maybe someone on the Cubs will replicate Neifi's performance tommorow, and he'll be remembered by Mets fans.

Yeah, and then the Mets fan will ultimately remember that player for dominating their team in a three game sweep.
