several studies have shown that teenagers would be much more effective in school if the school day was 9:30-4:30pm instead of 7:30-2:30pm, but no school does that. brilliant

We do 8:00 to 3:20, I can't even picture getting out at 4:30 or later. I'm not a fan of being in school past early afternoon.

That sure as hell would've made it hard for me to be as involved in all of my activities. Between sports, clubs, concerts I would have been be getting home pretty late each night.

I think that's often one of the reasons for not doing it. Even when I was in HS and we started at 7:15, I wouldn't get home from my softball practices until 5 or after. It'd be difficult to get in sports and clubs in the afternoon. Another reason I have heard concerns having the elementary and middle schools dismiss before the high schools do. That makes it difficult to get younger siblings picked up if the older sibling is still in school. You also have to consider who would be able to watch younger children during the after school hours if a high schooler can't because they're still in class.
