Just out of curiosity, does anyone know our record with and without Soriano?

I remember that it was just about .500, if not exactly that, without...

I think before Saturday's game they said we were 25 over with Soriano leading off and 1 under when he is not, which given that we split the 2 games since would still hold up.

46-21 with him

25-26 without

5 straight pickoff moves to try to get Russell Martin at first base. Wow.

ETA: Milwaukee wins. So does Arizona.

all i know is that the brewers have gone 8-1 and then 8-2 sandwiched around the cubs series.

and i'm not prepared to say that just because we swept them in a very big series that we are a better team. you have to admit that they are rolling right now. rolling.

Does the level of competition not count?

they're winning every game against inferior competition. that's what playoff teams do.

i still think that they overtake us, and i don't think that's so crazy to believe.

And you still have provided no substance to your claims. Why are they a better team than the Cubs? The Cubs have a better rotation, a better offense, a better bullpen, better defense, and more depth. We're better them in every facet of the game.

It's just a defense mechanism. Lots of Cubs fans have it... expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't happen.

Kind of a crappy way to enjoy being a fan, though, IMO.

do you honestly think that i wouldn't help it if i could? every time i start to believe, lucy pulls the football out of the way.

you act like someone chooses the kind of fan they are, like the team doesn't choose it for them.

but still, this amuses me, if only for a short while.

Wow... not exactly a tiny sample size either...

i can't explain it, on paper, the cubs are the best team in the nl, but how in the hell are they only 3 games up on a team who is obviosuly so much worse?

at this point in the season, sometimes numbers don't make the difference. meanwhile sabathia has pitched a million innings in a row and they're winning every single game that they play, regardless of competition. all they can do is beat the team placed in front of them, and they're beating their brains in.

Injuries and some luck. The run diffential shows that. Again, I'm not saying the Brewers aren't good. They're the second best team in the league. The Cubs are just better. It's not like you said "well, I think the Brewers still have a great shot at the division" or something like that. You pretty much proclaimed that they were going to win it and the Cubs had no chance. Like they are futile and can't hang with the mighty Brew Crew.

Nah, I don't blame you. I don't really fear choking till the playoffs though...but that's got more to do with how easily it can happen within a couple games...

Actually, I just realized, Soriano didn't lead off the first two games and they said we were 44-19 with him leading off, so actually we are 45-22 with him, 26-25 without.

Still, pretty pronounced difference.

wait, why do we care about the la-philly game again?

We don't want the Cubs to win the division and play Arizona.

We don't want to face Arizona in a short series. Probably doesn't matter to you though since you think we won't win the division.

We're winning the wild card and will be facing Philly, anyway.

Sulley's got me convinced.

Well, yeah. They've got Sheets and Sabathia and those are 2 automatic wins every 5 days!

Arizona remains 1 ahead of the Dodgers. Win tomorrow and keep the momentum rolling when the Brewers come to town.

Well, since the Cubs aren't going to win the division, gotta keep an eye out on the Wild Card race.
