Ok, whats the deal with Scott? Hes been up since Weds, and has warmed up numerous times, but Lou wont use him. I would think with a pretty depleted pen like we have, there has to be some innings in there for him somewhere.

Not sure why, but it seems Lou just doesn't trust him.

I did notice the up and down bit though, and thought the same thing. Perhaps a trade or DFA coming.

The Cubs announcers noticed it too. I don't recall whether it was Len or Bob, but one of them quipped during the game today that Eyre leads the league in warming up in the bullpen without actually appearing in a game.

From Bruce's blog:

That brings us to Scott Eyre, whom Lou called "Stevie Ire" much of last season, when Eyre made anything but a good first impression. Eyre has been off the DL for a few days now, but Lou hasn't turned to him, instead going with rookie Samardzija in game situations and Sean Marshall and Neal Cotts from the left side. One wonders how long Eyre and little-used long man Jon Lieber have with the Cubs.

Lieber is still on the DL, but as with Eyre, the Cubs are in no hurry to put him back on the active roster. With Chad Gaudin, who came over from Oakland in the Rich Harden trade, pitching well, it's possible Eyre and Lieber could be dealt or released.

And not a thought of DFA/trading Howry? ](*,)

They won't DFA Howry because he wouldn't draw any interest in trade. There have to be teams that would like to have a LH like Eyre or an innings eater like Lieber.
