That's a weak excuse to me. That's like saying Saltalamacchia is projectable while Soto going into his third year of AAA is a finished product. It's not like we're comparing Ryan Shealy's career path with Elvis Andrus's or something. McLouth wasn't particularly young for any of his levels.

Before the season started people wanted to trade for Reggie Willits, who was basically as old as Fuld at his levels, had worse numbers, and played in better hitting parks.

Now Willits doesn't look so hot but there's a topic full of people drooling over him before the 2008 season started.

Now are these the same people who doubted Fuld? I know I doubted Fuld's ability and also wanted no part in Willits. A dozen or so posters don't speak for everyone, there's no need to use absolutes.

willits has had what, 60 ABs this year? i think he's a decent option as a 4th outfielder because he has great speed and i think he can sustain a high BABIP, not because i think his walk rate will last. fuld isn't particularly fast.

You're really going to have me look up that thread in Transactions?

Come on. The point is major league baseball players with minor league careers like Fuld have contributed to their teams so there's no reason that Fuld should've been met with 100% scorn.

He wasn't met with 100% scorn. I wouldn't have minded Fuld earning the 5th outfield spot.

Catchers develop slower than other position players normally. Soto is an exception to the rule even after you consider that. He's a very poor example to counter that argument. There are always exceptions, but good organizations don't bank on them.
