In an ideal world, the Cubs can get all of these filled, but lets be honest...with the state of the Cubs farm system, whatever your top priority is, it will probably gut the farm system leaving the other needs unfilled.

Here is my list:

1. Front Line Starter

2. Veteran right handed bench player with power

3. LOOGY/Any capable left handed bullpen arm.

That's really it. Any guesses on who would be available for my number 2 and 3?

Front line starter is the biggest need.

I'm not sure the others are that big of needs. Though a LH reliever would be nice.

I understand your desire for the RH bat on the bench, but when Soriano comes back and Reed Johnson comes back, I don't see a place on the roster for one unless we trim the bullpen by one arm.

When Soriano and Johnson come back, our thirteen position players will be:

C: Soto, Blanco

1b: Lee, Ward

2b:DeRosa, Fontenot

SS:Theriot, Cedeno

3b:Ramirez

OF:Soriano, Johnson, Edmonds, Fukudome

I guess we could replace Fontenot with a RH bat, but that bat would have to play MI.

If we trimmed down to 11 pitchers, you'd have a spot for the bat you're looking for, but with the current roster configuration, I don't see it happening.

I think we're going to look for a front-line starter. We might seek a bullpen arm that can go to the back-end that would take Wuertz's or Cotts's spot on the roster.

A back-up middle infielder who is more reliable with the bat than Cedeno would be nice, but most of those guys are starters and aren't likely to be available in a trade.

I can see why recent events make you want that RH bat, but where on the roster would we put him once everyone is healthy.

It just scares me that this is our RH bench when Reed is starting

Cedeno

Blanco

I understand the roster crunch. It would be a lot easier if Fontenot played SS, so we could just ship Cedeno off and replace him with someone.

Yes it would be easier. I've floated Felipe Lopez as a possible bench acquisition. He really hasn't hit this year, and his defense at SS is passable at best. But he's a switch hitter who doesn't have huge career splits. If he replaced Cedeno or Fontenot on the roster then we might could move one or the other out of the way for a bigger bat. I still don't see the team going with less than two back-up middle infielders.

I think you hit the nail right on the head, and in the right order too.

I'm really not sure who is out there though for #s 2 and 3

C.C. or Harden please. Make it happen we are tired of waiting Hendry

There has been noise the past few days about the Indians trying to sign CC to a long term deal, which in my opinion the the smart move, especially if they have any intention of not pissing off their fan base over there debackle of a first half.

As for Harden, the A's are still very much in contention, and he's their top pitcher as long as he's healthy. Billy Beane isnt going to juts send him off just for the sake of doing so.

It's starting to look like Burnett might just be the top option when the time comes. Maybe Hendry should jump on him before other teams start to figure that out as well. The Blue Jays have a lot of holes to fill.

#2-Come the deadline, once a few teams realise their out of it, we'll be beating teams off with a stick who are trying to pawn off excess righties.

#3-How about Damaso Marte? The Pirtes wont be going anywhere. It's just too bad that the rest of the NL West wont let the Dodgers fall out of contetnion, because Joe Beimal would be a great addition.
