More bad news for the Cardinals.

Link.

Starting pitcher Todd Wellemeyer was examined Saturday morning after admitting to elbow and forearm discomfort during and after Friday night's 10-out appearance against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Wellemeyer described himself as "gator-arming" the ball in his last two innings as he found it impossible to straighten his elbow. He said the condition had eased Saturday but that some of the tightness that radiated from the elbow remained.

After the first inning, Wellemeyer said he found it impossible to rotate his wrist, leaving him incapable of throwing his slider.

That can't be good.

Does it really matter anymore? Its blatently clear that LaRussa has made a pact with the devil and whatever wash up they sign or low level prospect they bring up will dominate.

My prediction is sometime in late July, Mulder, Carpenter, and Clement will all return, suck and that will begin the downfall of the Cards.

Not surprising. Too bad though.

Ummm, isn't there some kind of league rule against doing this?

The guy obviously has something horribly wrong with his elbow, but LaRussa is going to continue to trot him out there??

He was already having pain in the elbow before the disaster on Friday. Now they'll send him out there again despite the fact that he was having trouble even straigtening his arm?

Isn't there some sort of liability issue if you continue to pitch a guy who you basically KNOW is injured?

I know there's at least one writer at BP who thinks we'll eventually see a pitcher sue his team.

In June or July of 2003, Gary Huckaby speculated that Mark Prior's tenure with the Cubs would end with him suing the team.

Edit: it was July 2003, and Huckaby speculated that the Cubs would sue Baker over his usage of Prior, and that originally the dispute would turn into a worker's comp case.
