Comes off the DL and I want to use him. Please change his eligibility.

I think this is going to become known as the Sean Gallagher rule and the last straw for Vine. Mark, I am going to have to revert you to the following post for the rules on this:

I think maybe this should go to an immediate emergency league vote since this is not the first time this has come up.

For the record, I voted that we should be able to use players the way that they're being used in MLB. However, there still needs to be a threshold, or else someone is going to find a starter who throws an inning of relief in an extra inning game and put him in as a reliever the rest of the way. 5 games (as opposed to the current 10) should be a nice compromise, I think.

This is going to get hairy sooner or later. Heck, it already has with Vine's departure.

If a situation happens like the one you mention above that would still be against league rules. You cannot get a start from a pitcher in the RP spot. This rule change is more for players like John Smoltz, Joba Chamberlain, etc.

I still don't get how this is even justified as a rule. A guy is eligible as a starter or reliever, but you can only use him in the role he's actually participating in. But when a guy is a reliever, but not eligible, you can't use him. It's completely asinine and arbitrary, as well as the opposite of how things were done before.

I agree with the fact that if John Smoltz is back to being a reliever he should be able to be used in the starting lineup as a RP right away and not have to wait for 10 relief appearances as the current rules state. What I disagree with is that while he is a relief pitcher he should be allowed to be added to the lineup as a SP. Why should a team have the benefit of starting an extra 4th reliever when you are only allowed to start 3?

Anyway, there is a poll on the league website for changing the waiting time on a pitchers eligibility. Please vote if you have not done so already. We need 7 votes to change it or it will be left as is for at least the remainder of this season.

Side Note: - this rule has not changed for the three seasons this league has been in tact. For the first season it may not have been enforced to the fullest but for the last season and a half this is what I have gone by since helping Tim out with commissioner duties. I have no problem changing/improving a rule by putting it to league vote and I'm sure Tim feels the same way but you guys have to speak up. That is why I created the post for offseason issues which is also stuck at the top of this forum.
