i'm laughing at the image of people dancing in the streets of seoul at 6 AM because a korean golfer won a golf tournament.

Yeah I couldn't imagine American's dancing in the streets of New York at 6AM because an American won a prestigious cricket tournament

golfing is a sport that just isn't fun to watch unless there's a guy who dominates it like tiger does. i root for him in part because of this, people root against him because of it, too. but golf is just boring when you have you have a different major champion from tournament to tournament. who's this guy? rich beem. who's that guy? some dude from canada. who won the PGA championship? some guy from Korea. North or South? don't care.

All sports are more fun to watch when there is actual competitive competition, parity, or any element of the unknown. If Tiger was up by 2+ on the 18th hole I would have changed the channel.

but it's really really boring when a guy from cedar rapids or hollidaysburg or the yucatan peninsula wins and then disappears.

tiger provides a hero for some and a villain for others, he gives the story a plot. plus, there's the greatness factor, the feeling you're watching history. hell, Tiger has become a record himself. YE Yang just became the first golfer to overtake a frontrunning Tiger on the last day of a major and everyone is talking about it like he just broke 60.

rooting against tiger is like rooting against golf.

Rooting for Tiger is like going to Vegas and rooting for the house

Yeng's 3hybred or Padraigs 3W at last years British Open? Damn crazy shots. Yengs pitch in eagle. Dude hit 2 amazing unforgettable shots that won the tournament. Those 2 shots by YA and todays duel is what makes the majors sooo awesome.

that's probably true that golf is more interesting when there is a clear "best player in the world" but it's boring when that best player wins majors by 5+ strokes. the ideal situation is to have that guy consistently in contention, but also have a lot of guys challenging him in the big tourneys.
