wrong section?

here or Social, but I figured people go here for game info

i guess, I just thought this was only for game threads.

But, you've been here longer so you probably know better

you'd think so, but...

The Game Threads forum is for game threads, just like the Polls forum is for polls. I'm moving this to Baseball Discussions; we've had broadcast-related discussions here in the past. I'll sticky it to keep it on the front page for the duration of the freeview.

thanks. I was on the fence as to where to put it. I picked Game Threads as I figured that was the first place people check for Game Info

I could look it up myself, but will the Freeview include the strike zone channel and game mix or will it be for games only? I have MLBEI but it's the basic package. I guess I could use the reimbursement I got from the Red Sox/A's opening day blackout to help pay for the additional package.

Should be freeview for everyone the first week. That's how they getcha, see.

I'll probably cave in and buy EI this year. Looks like DirecTV is going to have a ton of HD channels. Last year they only had 1 or 2, now it's potentially most games that are on.

According to my renewal notice they will have up to 40 HD games per week.

yes, up to 40 out of 80, so not bad.

I ponied up the extra $50 for the HD upgrade, much to my wife's chagrin

One day I'll get a HD TV. Until then I'll have to be content with the new furniture and surround sound system.

So, last year it was (estimated) 10 extra HD games per week (I'm basing that off of just seeing that there was usually 1 extra game on HD that you couldn't get anywhere else, sometimes 2 on the weekend).

40 per week is a massive upgrade. That's well worth 50 bucks IMHO.

i figure that if I get 3 to 4 Cubs games in HD per week, it's definitely worth it

My local cable (Brighthouse) provider which carries the package offers no HD games per week. It's pathetic.

they don't offer the upgrade?

Yes DirecTV is offering the Game Mix on 720 (nice feature showing 8 games at once thumbnailed), and the StrikeZone Channel (showing live at bats and updates from game to game). Strikezone channel is in SD and HD on 721 and 721-1.

I thought DirectTV was the only one that ponied up the 100 mil for the extra innings? Or do they get exclusive access beginning next year or some other year?

you're thinking of NFL Sunday Ticket which is exclusive to DirecTV

I'm a HUGE fan of the game mix

likewise. MLB.tv offers a similar thing, but it lags so much and is a huge memory hog on my computer. I also dig the standings and stats on demand, too. I wasn't planning on buying it, but I'm seriously considering now, and the GameMix was a big convincer. Unfortunately I'm broker than broke so it'll be a while before i can get it

I'm having a really hard time trying to justify the $179, especially since that much baseball in HD will undoubtedly make me fatter and lazier than I already am

I think he's actually talking about last year, when DirecTV nearly got a monopoly on Extra Innings because cable companies and Dish Network refused MLB's initial demands (I believe the main sticking point was the issue of carrying the MLB Network on basic tier). If I recall most cable companies worked out last-minute deals to carry Extra Innings but Dish didn't.

Anyone else having issues with it today? All the games listed are set up for tomorrow, and the Game Mix only shows 4 games, all starting later tonight. They have the Cubs vs. Pirates listed, and the Cubs vs. Astros game they have listed elsewhere on the channel list is for tomorrow.

WTH Extra Innings?
